Crankbaits

Featured Replies

Fishing a small resevoir here in the northeast (NY). Water temps anywhere from 50-60 degrees. Pretty shallow too, Im fishing from the shore in fairly clear water (4 foot visibility). Anyways, does anyone have suggestions as to what crankbaits I should be using? Brands, sizes, colors? Lipless or not? Thanks a bunch

Well, its hard to say what will work when and where, but I'd start by getting a few lipless crankbaits. My favorites are Rat-L-Traps and Yo-zuri Ratlin' vibes. For lipped crainkbaits, I'd try a Rapala DT, and a Timbertiger. Your selection on lipped cranks really depends on how deep it is, what the structure's like and what forage is in the lake.

And if cranks arent working for ya try using a spinnerbait and work it really slow for that shallow water....

But like rat said, I would try going with a lipless first...

This is the third differant forum today on BR that you have asked this question. Have you got the answer yet ?????????

with water temps that low, I would aim towards some sort of flat sided crankbait.  it will  have a tighter wobble that will work better in these cooler temps.  As for brand and color.  That can change from hour to hour as far as sunlight/cloud cover changes.  In clear water, stick to something natural.  Sunfish/Perch might be a very good bet.  Bandit Shallow flatside, or Rapala Flatside DT3 would be good ones to try.
