Looking for a baitcaster that can handle throwing jigs and plastics. I heard some casters have trouble throwing lighter equipment. Is there any truth to this?

I just got a shimano curado 50e for the exact techniques you listed. I have read a lot of good things about the 50e being a great reel to be able to handle lighter lures.

What weights do you commonly throw?

Some reels are better suited for baits over 3/8oz., and some excel with the lighter stuff.

Generally a lighter spool will be better for lighter baits. I can throw unweighted fluke with a regular pro qualifier. Often overlooked and just as important is a rod that will load up with lighter baits.

Normally the only jigs I thow are 3/8 oz and the plastics... well they're plastics. mostly texas rigged.

I use a 50E on a MED action BPS Tourney Special rod with 12# YoZuri a 3/0 widegap hook annd a 1/32 oz bullet weight for my plastics that I need rigged for slow and easy retrieves. Other plastic setups are Revo SX on a MED Vendetta rod 20# YoZuri 1/8 oz bullet and a 3/0 for faster action. A Pro Qualifier on a MED/H Lightning Shock rod 65# Spiderwire a 1/8 oz bullet for heavy cover. A Citica 200G on a MED/H Lightning Shock 65# Spiderwire a 1/32 oz bullet for my soft plastic frogs.

This is not considered "light" by most bass fisherman. It would be a pretty poor (bass size) reel that couldn't handle these weights with aplomb. Pick out a brand and model that takes your fancy, and have fun.
