Looks to be a 5-6 pound bowfin. I caught one about the same size. Put up a fight huh? Them fish are beautiful. And much more nicer than the aggressive snakehead. ( the last one I caught but my thigh and took some layers of skin ) good catch.

I agree with the 5-6 lb range and man do they fight! Be careful of the teeth, and I would put money on it, that you caught it on a white spinnerbait and it is now junk.............am I right?

I agree with 00 Mod, it probably tore up your spinnerbait. Down here in South Fl we also call them mudfish. Just last month I lost two Boo-yah spinnerbaits to mudfish twice that size. I agree with the numbers, that fish looks in the 5-6lbs range.

He's somewhere between 4 and 6. Those things are hard to estimate. I got one like that on a fly rod once, I thought it would go over 10, but he was just 6. Ruined a good frog popper, too. We call 'em Choupique (CHEW-peek). I understand they are good to eat if cleaned immediately, then iced.
I married a moonshiner's daughter and love her still...

:)

so the spinnerbait (Terminator...silver/blue/yellow body...silver /gold blades)..is still in pretty good shape...there was a fight but short...he took the spinnerbait just a 2 feet from me (I was ready to take the spiinerbait from the water to make another cast) so I went to ''panic mode'' and took the fish in 5 sec to the grass..first I thought it was a pike.....then he cut the line just above short wire leader...:)

So the bait I had correct, but the color was a little off! Must be a "T" series spinner bait. The only ones I will throw anymore because of the "grennel" (bowfin in southern terms)......congrats anyways! Where are ya from?
