Im sure this has happened to plenty of guys out there but today it was a first for me. Pitched my Senko up under some over hanging trees to a log floating up on the bank. Got snagged up on the retrieve and could not for the life of me get it of. Im about to give up and pull my rod straight back and snap the line when all of a sudden, THUMP THUMP. She ate it off the snag! I think hen it got caught because I was shaking it it must have been wiggling in her face and she just got ticked! She ate it up and freed me up off my snag! It was quite fun going from "d**n im snagged, def gonna lose that hook, weight and worm" to "holy crap a fish hit it" Anyways she wasnt anything huge, pound and a half maybe, but it sure was fun. Any good snag to fish stories? Or catching a fish when you least expect it stories?

Caught a number after pulling crankbait off grass and weeds. They hit it as soon as it came off with a hard tug.

Never caught one hitting bait as it was connected to the snag.

Always caught fish after it hit a piece of structure or when I tugged it hard to get it free.

Yea i love those reaction strikes when you rip a crank free of grass or bump it off a log but this was completely snagged. Pulled it every way possible and it wouldnt come off, as soon as im about to snap the line she nailed it. It was so awesome. Love bassin!

Not "get a fish off a snag" but "get a snag off a fish"

Last year my dad casted near a log and a bunch of branches. He got a fish and it jumped over everything and tangled the whole line. It was a good 3 lber, it took about 15 minutes to get it with the net.

Happened to me once. Fishing the Mississippi River in Pool 14, several years ago. I got a spinnerbait hung up on of all things a Wonderbread bag. Hook buried through several layers of the bag. Pulled and pulled and could not get it out. Finally got the layers of bag to rip and pop goes my spinnerbait. Well and nice fat female must have been attracted by all this commotion and she nailed my bait just as soon as It pulled free. Quirkie eh?

Thats awesome. I equate it to basically a reaction strike same as pulling a crank through weeds or knocking it off a stump. Seems theyre drawn to the popping action when the bait frees. But mine didnt free up, the worms tail must have been wiggling in her face while i was pulling trying to free it. Good stuff.

I took RW to my club some time last year and he got a rattle trap caught on a piece of wood. He was pulling and tugging and everything else trying to get it free, and as I get on the trolling motor to go get it, bam a nice fatty pulls the lipless crank free and the battle began.......

I had a friend reeling in a crankbait really fast after cause he didn't cast it where he wanted to and he somehow got a fish. How you ask? The fish was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The lure hit the fish in on the top of the head and had 2 hooks sink into his head. The fish was probably just swimming around minding his own business then BAM hook to the face and next thing he knew he was being pulled up out of the water. We got a good laugh out of it.

Yeah, I've had that happen once when I was hung up (Senko) in some rocks and the fish pulled it free. Several times I've had hang ups dangling in the brush and had fish come out of the water for it.

Thursday I side arm casted a jig under some limbs and got my line over a limb. As I pulled the line the jig came out of the water and was dangling in the air. I figured before I went to get it off the limb and blow out my spot I'd lower it back into the water and jig it a bit. I gave up after a second or too and pulled the jig back out of the water. Once the jig was about 3'' out of the water it got hammered by a 3# bass which Pulled me off the limb and I was actually the best fish of the day.

Sorta. I was fishing a small local lake and got snagged. Pulled and tugged for what seemed like forever. Finally got it free and reeled in. What happened was I got caught on someone else's snag that they broke off. So I reeled in about ten yards of line, a piece of a tree branch, and a small channel catfish that was caught on the snagged line! I forgot my pliers that day and he was hooked deep on a Kahle hook. I had to cut the line and let him go but I figured he had a better chance that way than being "leashed" to a tree.

I once caught a sunny with an in line spinner. The fish had a small treble hook buried in its back and somehow my hook caught the treble hooks eye and i reeled em in like that. What are the odds? lol

My buddy has a willow tree right next to the dock at his cottage that fell into the water a few years ago. I was standing on the dock pitching a t-rig at the tree when I made bad cast over a limb 3-4 feet off the water. After going over the limb and dropping into the water, I felt a hit on my t-rig and set the hook on maybe a 10" fish. The thing came flying up out of the water and my hook stuck into the limb my line was over and held the fish there! I had to have my buddy hold my rod while I climbed out onto the tree to release the fish and get my t-rig back.

interestingly i get bit all the time once i pull my lure off of a snag. So, i usually position the boat a good distance behind the snag and yank it out and keep fishing it even though the line may be frayed. Last week i stuck a 6+ doing the same thing. Someone mentioned it the other day but it seems that reaction strike just gets them so excited!
