  • Favorite Lake or River:The Yampa River, Colorado's best smallmouth fishery. Lots of 2 - 4 pound, obese bronze bombers in this river. Connected Lakes is my favorite lake, just a group of small gravel pits, no bigger than 100 acres. No monsters, but lots of 2 - 5 pound largemouths and the odd 6 - 7.

What ever they bite. Somedays they bite anything, other days you have to toss the works at them.
I am not afraid to suck.

It is hard enough to catch spawning bass, I will throw whatever until somebody starts to bite then stick with it.

I prefer a lizard hands down. At my lake they tend to spawn with 5-10ft of the bank. So not only do I get to see them at a safe distance but I get to watch them pulverize my lizard. I also get to see if they just have it in their mouth long enough to move it out of the bed or if they are trying to kill it. Of course, I'm referring to male bass. I tend to get to target focused though. I spent almost 3 hours one time trying to get a bass to take the lizard. Finally he did.
