I went to a local lake after work today with a friend and we started our normal routine headed to our normal shore line with piles of thick cover and started punching away we had 2 fish in about 2 hours : (. So as we were trolling back to the dock to call it a day I passed over a drop I had never seen went from 18 to 25 feet. I stopped the boat and grabbed my new found obsession the drop shot, first cast to this drop off hooked into a 3# LM
And from there we caught 37 fish in an hour and a half. Marked the spot and headed in.

Never had success like this in the summer usually it is a miserable grind to get 10 tops, we were fishing with the bps hand poured 3.5 " minnows wacky rigged with a 16-20 inch tag end and a 1/4 oz weight. Have you guys used any other minnow type baits and had succes and how did you rig them.

This is why structure is so important, especially in the summer, at least until the water temps reach the high 80's low 90's and o2 levels drop off.

What I normally will try is a fluke on a drop shot when I am not using a worm, or I will use two flukes, one on a 12" tag the other 10 to 14", if I want them deeper on the double fluke I use a 16th to a 1/4 oz keel weighted #3 or #4 hook, depending on how deep I want them, instead of the drop shot set up.

Nice job by the way !!!!

Good luck and be safe !!!
Fishing is my idea of a good lip piercing!

I have also found that when it comes to friends, a good friend will come and bail you out of jail, but best friends will be right there beside you saying d**n that was fun !!!

Once you find those spots fishing gets better but they are hard to find as they aren't big and it is often just a small subtle difference that makes it a honey hole. Now that you found it remember, those fish will move up and down the water column in that spot so if the drop shot isn't working don't go away but instead try the shaky head, I found that the shaky head is a great follow up technique when the fish won't come off the bottom for a drop shot.
