S.O. jigs are great. I have two boxes full of them, and for the money they are some of the cheapest jigs you can buy (in price only), if you don't mind doing the work you can buy the skirts and jigs separately and you will save money. The fact that S.O. lets you have the choice is great, because that is what will keep my coming back. The rate I go through jigs I need all the help I can get with price. No to mention he was making these orders and sending them out right down to his wedding day, great service, great price. I don't pimp many companies online, but this bro is the man!

I use a 12v rechargeable battery that I fit into a waterproof box. Seems standard, I think someone on this forum uses 8 AA's batteries or something like that. Really depends on how long you plan on being on the water I guess. If weight is an issue, the 12v is heavier than some other options.

I use a humminbird 190c, love it. Works great for depth, temperature and contour, which is what you need to focus on using it for. Before you even buy your FF, make sure you take the kayak out a few times, that way you know where you want to mount the head unit and the transponder. I have my mounted on an arm with a ram ball on the bow of the kayak, I wanted the transponder in the water and did not want to mess with any scupper whole mounts. I like the arm, it puts the cone in front of my kayak which is where I wanted it, and I have a system to swing it up and out of the way if I get close to the bottom. Getting a FF is a good idea, but I highly recommend spending a few hours in the kayak before ever rigging it up.

I use hi-vis green on my spinning gear, love it. Fish don't care about the color either it seems.

All the gear and money wont catch you much if you do not understand fish habitat and fish behavior. I do great with my 200 dollar set ups, and love them like they were 500 dollar setups. experiences trumps everything, then I feel that the line being used is the most important and rod, reel and bait all fall behind that. give me time on the water and my vendetas and lews and I will be happy! Look at it this way, all pro baseball players swing the same bats (within reason), some get paid millions, some get paid millions more then the other man. The guys who make the most money are not always going to be hitting the ball well, it still comes down to skill. Perfect analogy? No, but sort of gets the point across.

The only fish I will keep if I catch them, worth it for 2 or 3 to make some dinner, besides perch I can't think of anything else around here that is as good....maybe crappie or bluegill

hitting objects is the name of the game. You want to swim that jig into and around anything you can. This will get a lot of strikes, sort of like fishing a spinner bait.

I fish it like I would a swim jig, or spinner. I vary the retrieve I was yo-yoing yesterday with some side ticks every now and then, pretty slow on the bottom of the water column. It just now started to get warm here and the bass where I fish have not started the spawn, and if they are it is way off the shallows from where I am used to seeing them. But they are hungry so the time is coming.

It is a spinner bait swivel, I slipped over a small piece of latex tubing and put the hook through it, creates a tight seal to the hook and it will not slip off.

Had my first fishing of the year today in north eastern Ohio. Had to go bank fishing as my life doesn't have time for busting out the kayak right now. Used the Siwtchblade jigs I made this winter, bluegill pattern with a living image bluegill blade #4. Fished an hour and got 3 between 1-2 pounds and 1 around the 3.5-4 pound mark. First time using these and I really love them over a typical spinner, worked really well, can't wait to hit up some deeper waters. Most defiantly try these out, easy to make and I think you will love them. I got one strike at the blade, but the rest of the hits were all inhaled and very noticeable.

JIgs are one of the few baits that have tons of action just sitting in the water. The bass can not resist that alive look the skirt gets when the water fluffs it.

yeah that was a pretty incomplete thought on my part, they are the same and different, but I guess I meant more about technique.....still 'hungover' from moving this weekend.

really jig fishing and worm fishing are the same, just a different bait, the ways of fishing them really are the same, for me anyway. a t-rig'd worm is pretty much a skirtless jig ;/

if you really want your rod to look like the sky, you can have all the wallpaper from the house I just bought, it is 80's sky patterned wall paper, and would be great rod camo for you buddy

Jigs can be worked anywhere a bass can be found. That is the simplest answer I can give you. Fish it various ways and see what works best. You do not need a certain type of cover, you just need to find bass, then hope they are hungry for some jigs!

Yeah those spitfire a pretty small overall for a standing platform if you do not have super awesome balance. I am all in on Emotion kayaks for the budget conscious fisherman looking to get into kayak fishing, I have had many comments on mine, even from those with much nice/spendy rigs, they are surprised what was offered for the price I paid.

If I caught a world record, I would keep it, state record, eh, toss it back, a state record in Ohio is pretty average is some parts of the USA

Is there a good video, or guide that makes the process easy? I have never done a reel cleaning, but would like to learn. don't mind pulling it apart with the schematics on hand, but seeing a guide would be nice too.

Look at the Emotion brand. They are stable, and cheaper. Newer company. I own a Mojo Angler, got it brand new on sale for around 650 shipped. Normally I think the retail is around 800. Perfect kayak for a first kayak, can be outfitted very east for anything you want. Plenty of storage space, has a removable center console w/ scotty rod mount. Front hatch, carrying capacity well over 400 lbs, stable as hell, you can stand in it, however standing in a kayak is a matter of practice, so any of them will feel unstable, and when the water is choppy standing isnt going to be a good idea anyway. I would consider these seriously, all you hear about is the normal Jackson, Hobie, Native etc, and for good reasons, however this company is good, and the kayak is awesome and somewhat off the radar. Oh yeah, speed and turning is good, and tracks very well for the size. 13' long, around 70 lbs empty. If you look at my profile there are pictures of my Mojo on there, it is more rigged up right now then in that picture, but it is awesome, I love it. If money was not an issue I would own a Jackson Coosa, but I am poor right now!
