  1. If standing is a concern, most SOT kayaks are more stable then a caone these days when looking at them un-modified. I would go with whatever feels best, fits your budget. I personally love my kayak, standing isnt an issue, and I find that I dont need to stand all that often anyway. fishing seated is something that will take a bit to get used to, but it happens
  2. It is a wonderful reel for the price. Most people will tell you that. I feel like Abu reels only shine when you get to the Revo's. The worm gears on the lower end models like to crap out after a while (for me anyway), read some reviews about the Orra SX and you will see that about that model, it is a glaring issue to me. I do however love my Orra spinner howeveer.
  3. IN that price range I would get a Lew's SS
  4. Gander has 20 dollar, camo colored polarized glasses, the camo is the important part of the equation, all the rest is a bonus.
  5. The biggest thing you can do for your fishing ability is to.... study bass behavior and study bass habitat. The hardest part of fishing is finding the fish, once you know how to find them, catching them is a matter of bait type....
  6. I think you could rig a senko up with water proof road flares and still catch a bass.....
  7. Nope, I have a kayak, she does not. I have taken her bank fishing a few times and she is more interested in playing Bejeweled on her Ipad than learning anything about fishing. This is fine with me, as I love to fish alone most of the time as my friends dont really fish much. She does think my jigs are cute, and she says I like to craft when I am tying skirts etc....which I think is funny.
  8. I have used it for jigs and t-rigs last season as a cheap outfit. Worked great, the line is where you are going to get most of your sensitivity as that is what the hits are going to be transmitted to first, it is up to you to feel it through the rod. If I got a hit I hooked up more often than not using this rod in 6'9'' MH/F, I used 40# 832 w/ FC Leader
  9. Looks like gandolf dropped his fishing staff......
  10. There are a few Tandem Kayaks that would work, not sure if you researched them or not. Is expensive however.
  11. And these 4 companies comprise 90% of what I fish that is a jig, trailer, spinner, scent. I feel like for the price these guys offer, they have as high, if not higher (certain items) of quality as certain bigger name brands. I also prefer the customer service I get from these guys. If I have an issue with my order from Mike, I know that it will not be an issue getting it resolved. You can not say that about a lot of bigger businesses. I did not know about 2 of those 4 before I joined BR and since I joined now that is all I use. As for soft plastics, I go with Zoom for almost everything, they have one style of everything that I need, if I use something else it is because I got a sample pack of it from someone. Exception is Rage Tail for trailers, can't really beat those.
  12. 3/8oz FIsh colors (baby bass, shad, bluegill) 3/8oz Anything in white. Those are the two classes of swim jigs that will be a good place to start. Whatever brand you like, Seibert is awesome and so are Dirty Jigs. you want to stick with head styles that will help flow throw things like grass and weeds.
  13. this x 12313012938019831 It is 35 degrees here, and if the water wasn't frozen, I would toss on my waders and launch the kayak in a HEARTBEAT
  14. Learned on lefties, still use them today. I am right handed. I like having my dominate hand work the bait with the rod, plus, I am faster with my dominate hand when it comes to setting a hook once I feel the bite. I think it is more important to have you dominate hand on the rod, but I also learned this way. I think I am in the minority with that mindset, it probably doesnt matter anyway
  15. these small colorado blades work well for inlines.
  16. Like them or hate them, you can't deny a lot of trophy fish have been bagged on Rapalas....
  17. I own a 1996 F-150 XLT and this would be great, because 2015 when when I hopefully will be able to afford a new one!!! I would want red
  18. I just purchased 2 chug bugs from gander
  19. Do not remember the name, or the brand, but I used to buy these ribbon tail worms from SUper K-Mart when I was a kid. They were Strawberry and Raspberry flavored, and colored. I used to catch bass on the Purple ones like CRAZY. All I remember is the smell, smelled just like fruit lol. edit: Found them! It was Manns Jelly Worm, they were not ribbon tailed but a sort of paddle tail. Man these things used to kill them! Might have to get a nostalgia pack
  20. I have only used the trebles, and my thinking is some nice name brand cranks use them standard, so they must be a good quality product. Now that logic doesnt always pan out, but this case I think it does
  21. A+ My father never once took me fishing, in fact he hates fishing. He has gone with me when I was a kid bank fishing many times, but never really enjoyed it, and it was not a bonding experience what-so-ever. Thank heavens for my oldest brother, he taught me and made me fall in love with fishing, and I couldnt be happier about it. Some of my best memories as a kid were fishing with my brothers, or fishing by myself. If my wife and I can have kids (not so sure) I will totally attempt to take them and show them the way.
  22. My favorite baits: anything top water, because it is the most fun to watch. My best producers: any type of jig, shaky, wacky, jig-n-chunk, swim jig, plastics rigged all ways. I think when people get to caught up in what baits work best, they really need to learn where to find bass and what bass are doing what times of the day. I say this because you can catch the same bass, in the same spot with a few baits and techniques, it is knowing how to find that spot which is the real key. The more time I spent to learn bass habitat, behavior and patterns, the better I started catching fish and the less it mattered what I tossed, but some things work better
  23. Braid w/ or w/o CXX # depends on the cover. Usually I have a leader because I would rather cut a leader to re-tie then the expensive freaking braid....
  24. TO go along with what these guys have said. Quality electronics will not make up for lack of knowing what to look for in the first place. You should use the sonar to find structure more than to find fish. The keep to fishing all day long and catching fish as well is going to be finding places where the fish are going to be. Sounds easy, but once you have practice finding locations, it is that easy. Remember you cant catch fish where there are no fish, and sometimes it is more productive to spend a day searching out locations instead of just blindly fishing. I would buy a topo map of where you normally fish, learn how to read that map, then circle the areas on interest, go there with your sonar and check them out, then place an attack and see what happens. You dont need the newest hi def down imaging gear to be catching all day, so please don't get caught up in that.
  25. You should also check out the Zenith shaky head's, they are some of the best on the market, stand up awesome, are strong hooks, and just perform well overall. My fav. shaky head out right now for sure.
