  1. Hanover hit it on the head. I would just get some seat time. Let me just say this, I know you want to spend 800 for the kayak, but things start to add up really fast depending on how you want to go about things. A seat...PFD...paddle...you get the point, 800 is a nice number but you will probably be 1200+ once you get everything else. I would try and look for a used one if I were you, I was given mine as a gift but if I had to purchase my first one myself I would get a used kayak in the brand I want. 2c
  2. Before you switch lines totally, buy some KVD and treat your line. KVD made the cheapest FC line (Viscous) a joy to use.
  3. Hello, just a quick question. I purchased a PirahnaMax 190c to install on my kayak. I have everything I need except the terminals to connect the batter to the unit. I read in the manual about getting a inline 1 amp fuse, but was confused on weather that is for installing to just the battery or when you install to the fuse panel. Obviously I will be installing onto the battery. First fish finder that I have owned myself, so of course the first install also, so not trying to screw things up too much. thanks as always, great community.
  4. Diablo makes some awesome models, might be more than you are looking to spend however. The jackson line has some nice yaks and they are all easy to stand up in. The COOSA is my fav.
  5. Here is my kayak, Emotion Mojo Angler. I do not know anyone that owns one, they are not your popular angler like wilderness and hobie are. This was a gift from my wife, so I can't complain at all, personally my dream is a Jackson Coosa, but this is wonderful for a first kayak. Upgrades: PriahnaMax 190c Transducer arm on the bow. Ram mounts for both Anchor Trolley Surf to SUmmit hot seat Have a nice PDF Basic paddle good cart for transport. Future Plans: Silent traction system is being shipped as I type this. Also going to drill a hole in front of the console where the wall is between the cabin and the bow hatch and run a clear tube for the electronics along where the console is. Want to get a GoPro and mount for it Want to get a good flag or other means of making myself seen better. Overall I like the kayak a lot, I can side saddle very easy, have not tried standing up yet (only been out twice before winter) but the kayak is very very stable, I tried to topple her over but ended up sliding out. She isnt the fastest but good speed anyone, tracks very well and is easy to turn. I like that the center console is removable so if I find something to replace it I will not have a hard time to do that. Also the console has a lot of room under it to run wires to keep things out of the way. I am 5'9" and 180 and have no problems at all fitting inside, reaching anywhere or getting what I need. My only real complaint is that there is no hatch in the cabin or in the stern area. However I plan on adding two 6 inch hatches w/ bags in the future. I only would ever use 3 rods at once so there us more than enough storage for rods and gear.
  6. Pop-R is probably the only really cheap lure that works for me on a reg. basis.
  7. Thanks for all the help you all have offered. I decided to go with a Pirahnamax 190c because I got a 50$ gift card, plus it is on sale at Belas for 149.999, so I feel like for 100 bucks that is a good deal. I am going to be unseeing a ram 1" ball mount with a adjustable transducer arm that I found on ACK. I explored the wet mount, goop mount and scupper mount options and I feel that having the transducer on the arm is best for my kayak. The scupper mount doesn't offer enough protection and I want it to work the best it can so shooting through the hull just is not going to fit that need. I like that I can move the arm out of the way when I beach the kayak, and should help me get the most functionality. I will update when everything is mounted and good to go. Thanks again for all the help.
  8. try living in ohio....if you do not ice fish the winter sucks.
  9. I got a 50 dollar gift card to cabelas!
  10. Thanks for the reply, I have been doing a lot of searching about what type to get, and I am going to go with a basic model in the 100-150 range. For what I need those models will work great. I am just trying to decided to go with a Lowrance or a Hummingbird. Seems to be pretty equal, but I have not made a choice yet. I will do the install. I have installed everything this far on my kayak and I like the satisfaction of knowing if it gets messed up, I personally did it The one thing I am not clear on still is once I buy the system, is there anything else I am going to need to run the finder, besides maybe a mount. If there is a "ALL IN ONE" package that would be great, but I have not found it yet, nor have I search for a "kit"
  11. I used to do a lot of ice fishing as a kid, but now I just do not have the time, or the auger, or the poles ;/ But something about frying up some gills in the winter I really miss.
  12. Someone should photo shop Jeremy Wade's head in place of one of those dudes, he should be involved with a fish like that@!
  13. If you think it is bad when you are in a boat, get into a kayak and see how people treat you. Like you are the bottom of the food chain.......it only takes one time getting buzzed by a boater really close to make me move to water where there is electric or no wake.
  14. The time has come to add a new piece to my kayak and it is going to be a fish finder. For those with kayaks and fish finders what are your thoughts, comments, recommendations, experiences? I have searched around and have not found many answers to my questions. I fish inland lakes, none deeper than 70 feet at the most, however I know even the cheapest pieces of equipment will go that deep. Anyway, thanks for the input, price will be under 300, would like to ideally be in the 150-200 range.
  15. Thanks for the tip on the traction material, I am looking into it, but money is super tight for me and this is getting pieced together as the funds come in. Next for me is a basic fish finder then the rest will come.
  16. I have a trolley on the right side for now, I am just using basic hardware store gear till I find what I like works, and then going to upgrade the hardware. I will add one on the left side once I see how the right side one works. I attached it so it goes right under the handle, which is well about the water line. I will do a full review one of these days with pictures. I feel this kayak is very underratted because so many people are piloting jackson's, oceans, wildress, this is a great yak, and leaves you a lot of room to retrofit things like hatches etc.
  17. I have tried a lot of lines, and always go back to O.G. Stren mono's I wish i had money to just test out YoZuri on my rigs, but I can't right now....but I am sure from what I hear that is what I would use most of the time. For now, Stren does the trick and I have only had one break off this whole summer, from being hasty instead of a re-tie.
  18. Anyone have one of these? I just purchased a Mojo and I love it, but do not see a lot of other people talking about them. What I am really looking for is where people tend to put that anchor trolley. There is plenty of room to add one, but I am unsure of the level of where to install it, I know where the water line is at but it just seems like an odd area overall. Any insight is appreciated!! Mini Review: Stability is awesome, literally really need to try and dump it over, you will slide out before you flip this beast. Tracking is great, turning is a little slow, but given the size (12.5' by 32" @ 62lbs) it will be slower. Side saddle is super easy, there is one nice hatch in the bow, and plenty of room to add one at the stern or in the cabin area. The Angler model is set up very well already, much better then some other models, there is not anything anywhere that I think is a poor choice. Has a removable console w/ scotty holder, which is a perfect spot to add a FF w/ the scotty flush mount that is already there. I got a great deal on this online so w/ paddle, nice PDF and shipping I got the Mojo for 750 ish, well worth it, only thing major I would like to have which I will add is going to be a hatch in the cabin area for easy phone/key/food stowing. Other than that I can not complain at all for the price.
  19. Clayton I don't personally know you, but I have talked with you on here and you seem like a class act. From only what I have read in your post things are not right. My wife and I have thing understanding, no opposite sex friends, it just never works out. She and I both believe this. My heart goes out to you from reading this post, and my blood is boiling over some of the things I have read. I would have already physically assaulted this guy by now as I do not have control over myself like you seem to. Again, from what I have read things are not right, you need to seriously sit down, and consider your life without here. You do not want your kids to be around this type of drama. My gut says she is doing something behind your back, might not be physical, but defiantly seems emotional. Emotional affairs are almost worse, and happen far more often. I am sure you hurt, but pain in only temporary and you shouldn't have to keep revisiting this type of thing in your life. I hope things work out, I personally would tell her get rid of him or I am gone, maybe that is selfish, but what she is doing is wrong is so many ways. Good luck brother, if you need to vent come at me, I have invested a lot of time into my relationship with my wife and we work really hard together to keep it going well. I can offer any advice, if you ever want to hear it. Keep us updated however it turns out. Tight lines.
  20. I got a 7'M for a spinning rod, this beast has next to no whip in it. I use it for finesse, light small cranks, and small top water. I actually love the rod, I have pulled a few 3+ lbers into and out of serious cabbage and was not worried about the rod snapping, so far no complaints from me other than being somewhat tip heavy but not a big deal.
  21. wow, great catch!
  22. it is days like that which make it all worth it!
  23. Normally, I wouldn't ask these things on a fishing forum, however I like the generally older more mature audience's views on topics because, in general, you have had more experiences in life and have better insight.
