  1. I really only use single tail or double tail grubs from Zoom, the fat alberts. Sometimes I will use cut ribbon tails worms, or other creature baits if they are past their life span.
  2. I would buy two more speed spools and line for them
  3. If you are looking for this style of jig, go to wally world, there you can find some 1/4 - 1/2 Mushroom head jigs, these work awesome, all they want to do is stand. But caution to you, these things will only really work well on firm bottoms, if it is mud they get dug in way too easy. I think they are made by Arkie but don't quote me. They have a single wire weed guard, a skirt with rubber banding with fit perfect https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&docid=winxVth9x1gtWM&tbnid=23t-tjagiMAarM:&ved=0CAUQjRw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fishin247.com%2Ff247%2Fb1_freshwater-fishing-discussion%2Ft7180_cabin-creek-baits%2F&ei=gi0LUZ-EF-680AHVkIDYAQ&bvm=bv.41867550,d.dmQ&psig=AFQjCNFcx4XaJkGcGgTu3MVR_VqjXdf4Rw&ust=1359773370781380 Scrolldown to the bottom of that link to see what I am talking about. The hook is thing like you want. Hope that helps. I use these sometimes when I want something that is going to stand straight up in the air if I am fishing on rocks or hard bottoms.
  4. I wouldnt spend the extra 60. Unless you are looking for a larger spool which I think the BB has, everything else is going to be on the SS. I love my Speed Spools, really for the price, it is a great freaking reel. if money isnt an issue, well then spend the extra 60. I would save that money and buy some nice quality line! I have used both, and I would purchase the speed spool because it is really all you need.
  5. thanks guys, I love this forum and community, always a fast answer. tight lines.
  6. Everyone, Of those of you that own and use these, I have a question. I just purchased 2 of these from TW. I have never used the internet to buy a rod. I have 3 Vendetta's already, the first generation. Before I decide to send these back or make adjustments to them I want to know this. On both rods, the first 3 guides after the tip top guide are not at 90 degree angles to the rod, they are between 90 and 45 degrees, they appear to be somewhat laid down. Is this how the Vendetta 2's are? I am pretty sure I can just adjust the eyes to get them to sit right, or I guess I can send them back and get a refund and just spend a little more for some other rods at Gander Mountain or Dicks. Let me know what you guys think, the rods feel great, super light weight, the action is what I expect from Abu on the Vendetta model, just not sure if they are trying something new with the guides that I did not know. Thanks, other than the the order is in great shape, however I would assume that they would pack the rods in more protective shipping material than just a plastic bag with 2 inches of bubble wrap on the tip.... BBL
  7. To me crankbaits are somewhat of a labor of love, normally you have to swap out hooks and tune them, which is why I sort of keep it simple with what I will fish. I usually fish only lipless cranks (SK/Rapala), I guess I just do not have a good skill base with cranks and am always too busy tossing jigs, spinners, and topwaters. I like the lipless cranks because they can go to many different depths and mostly always produce for me, I have some jerk baits inmy tackle, however I do not know how to use them effectively because I never try and use them, just have them because I feel i should haha. sorry for grammer/spelling etc, sitting in a parking lot ninja stealinf some WIFI on campus
  8. I am right now, as we speak looking at a shopping cart full of one popper from each company that is 10$ and under. Looking to see if I can find something as good or better than the POPr, now I know people swear by others, but if these little bad boys catch fish at WAY less then others, how can i switch. I love the Pop-R and while they are not all made great, you get a few that are always dead on, the spit great, pop loud and walk well. I really want to try a few new ones, but at the cost of around 50-60 bucks for 5-6 lures....I am not sure it will be worth it. River2sea really has my eye as they build quality lures, and so does the Zell pop by xcalibur. We will see.
  9. The only way to be happy is to just buy that thing you want. Can't take it with you, so might as well have it now.
  10. If you have the money to burn why not, I'll stick to my sub 200 reels
  11. A word on trailers. I like to use trailers that flow or swim on moving baits and one that flutter or float on stationary baits, but it is always good to experiment. swim jigs: double/single tail grubs, reapers, etc. Other jigs: craws, chunks, cut creature baits, cut off bluegill tails sometimes.
  12. I find for myself that a medium/fast works best for poppers and other topwaters. The medium power offers enough bend to get the job done with the Vendetta rods that I use. The rest is up to me timing to bite with the hookset. I have tried to use softer tips and there is almost too much whip, but I could see how that would help someone that loves to react as soon as they see the bite. For me, medium action and mono line is a good match.
  13. FWIW, The vendettas are great rods. I use them for all my setups because they are under 100 and are built well and offer a good feel. I think you will be nice and surprised with how well the rods perform. They are on the stiffer side, the MH are awesome, and the Medium is also worth checking out. I only have fast tips so I cant comment on any other action.
  14. Crayfish or not, bass will eat jigs. I have a little little local pond where I live that I will fish when I do not have time to get out the kayak. There is nothing but mud on the bottom, some vegetation and zero crayfish. But guess what, those bass love jigs! I would guess you are either fishing them in a way that is not productive for your waters, the colors are off, or you are not locating the bass. I have always been of the school that slower is better when you are fishing a jig, if you dont get hit on the drop, then shake and move it along slowly, sometimes I just dead stick it and let the skirt do the job, even on the hardest of fishing days jigs will produce.
  15. Oh and if these rods come and are broken, or damaged or otherwise messed up, I will probably just ask for a refund and go to Gander MNT and just get 2 Croix rods. the reels came in good order, so hope the rods do too.
  16. Two things. 1: I work for UPS and I know how things get handled, consider your packed to get kicked around and tossed like a football from truck to truck, this is what happens from a lot of guys. The guys who load trucks do not care, and a lot of the drivers do not care, if it says fragile, it might as well just say brake me. Sad but somewhat true where I work. 2: That being said I just ordered 2 Vendetta 2's from TW and they are being shipped buy UPS!! Haha, hope for the best, they will be here tomorrow I hope, so pray for me please!
  17. I dont hide it either, my gear sits plainly in her sight, however I do not tend to advertise the purchases it just sort of adds up....and eyes roll
  18. Well, the UPS lady went to the garage.....found the wife and had her sign! she didnt care though she even laughed a little......but it sounded sort of evil....
  19. Haha, no but I am about to ninja myself out of harms way !
  20. Wish me luck two new rods and 2 new reels, wife just got home, she hasnt a clue
  21. great post man, nothing like kayak fishing, I am soooo ready for winter to break and the ice to melt so I can get some paddle time in, Ohio blows this time of year for people who do not ice fish
  22. Nothing like a black buzzbait at night in the summer time to really get some nice violent strikes.
  23. Left hand options for all styles, I learned on left handed gear and now that is all I use, I feel I get better action on the bait using my dominate hand to work it, and using my off hand to reel feels right. II like abu's and lews reels, I would like to see them all come with hawg tech handles
  24. I stick to certain brands because of a money issues, for what I have to spend I stick with what I like and what works, if I buy something new that turns out a bad choice, that is a big hit for me. if I was in a different situation I wouldnt care about trying whatever.
  25. I like the Vendetta rods, most people don't care for them I personally love them, I prefer Lews reels, I like to keep my combos to the 200-250 max range. I would rather spend my money on my Kayak If I had a job, and wasnt in school full time spending loan money (dont tell the wife) on fishing gear I would probably have all St. C rods Wisconsin pride !
