I decided before I bought a bigger trolling motor I would try one of these High Performance Props and see how it works on the Minn Kota.  I know I've ready several different things on them, good, and some bad about overheating the motor.  My warrently is out anyway, so thought for 29.00 I would give it a shot and see how it works.

I would be really interested when you get one if it helps with reverse thrust.  My only real complaint with my MK40 is reverse is totally useless even on high.

I agree with you on the Reverse thrust.  You got to put it on high, then wait and pray it kicks in !!!!!  Must be something to due with the pitch on the prop that causes it to be almost useless in reverse.  I've read different things about these Kipawa props, some folks swear by them, others swear at them. I thought before I chunked out 200-250 bucks for a bigger trolling motor I would give this a shot.

It'll be a while before I get to try her out, due to everything being frozen up here.  Sure wish I could get up the nerve to Ice Fish, but for this Southern boy, 20 years of "Don't go out on the frozen Pond" does something to your mind!!  Thanks Mom.

i made a wheel/axle set fom 2 used 20 inch rear bicycle tires.  i popped out the bearing seats and put i 3/4 inch threaded rod 5 inches wider than my jon boat. i secured the wheels with double nuts and washers to keep them on and also covered rod between the wheels with pvp water pipe so it would spin on the threaded rod nd not did into my jon boat or canoe at all.  i secure it to the canoe and jon boat with 2 tie downs.  total cost under 20 bucks.  i used 2 tires i picked up from the dump and bought the threaed rod, nuts ,washers and pvc pipe from aubuchon hardware.  if i remember i wll post a pic.  used it all season long even in soft sand. loaded with trolling motor and battery and all the gear.

Wow. I'm amazed that this thread is still going. I had to sell my tracker a couple of years ago and have been basically out of bass fishing since then.  I've decided to start over by pulling my old 10 foot Pelican out and rebuilding her into a mini-bass hunting machine. :)

I found this thread while googling a way to add a rudder to my boat. I read the whole thing from page 48 to page 1 before realizing that I was the first person to respond to the original question back in 2010. I haven't been on the site in over a year, but am glad to be back and am blown away by all of the mods that people have done to their bass raiders.

Keep up the great work! I'm definitely going to be using some of these in my own design.

Hello everyone, I have been enjoying this thread for just a week now. When I found this thread I was cruisin the web to find out more info about the boat that I found on craigslist for $200. I am impressed on all the mods that I have seen on here, to say the least. So after reading your alls feed back on this boat and its versatility of the mods that I could do, I then decided to purchase this boat. I paid 175 and he threw in a battery. I am now looking for a trolling motor for this bad boy. Fun times! So thanks again for the fantastic mods and I look forward to being a part of this group.

I hear you. Love this post too. Up here in the north lands i'll work on my ice house mods in the summer and enjoy the mod on my pelican from this winter. starting to get the itch to see how my new system works out. For now I'll keep drilling holes in the ice.

I too have one of these little boats and use it for farm pond fishin. In fact, I am sitting in it for my avatar to the left. It's perfect for those small waters. Put it in the back of my pickup with all my goodies and can 4 wheel drive back to those boonie hard to reach ponds where the big guy's are just waitin for me! I have never modified mine, but have gotten many great ideas from this thread and will have to install a few of them. Thanks!

Hello all, I am looking for a way to mount my oar to the side or my boat. I have an 8' sun dolphin sportsman which is very similar to a pelican. I saw on you tube where a guy used a really slick looking black clips for his. I wonder if any body has any ideas on what I could use.
Thanks.

I found several clips that you find when you look at kayaks and mods you find for these types of boats. i settled on pressure clips that allow you to store the oars without worrying about breaking off the clips. I will look around but i think i have a picture i can share of the set I used.

Hey guys!

This is my first post. I have a little 8ft bass buggy, it's not a pelican bass raider, but it's the same concept! I bought it, a trolling motor, and marine battery for $185!! I have a few questions:

1) It didn't come with seats. Any homemade ideas? Pictures?

2) The PO painted the top white and it's starting to come off. Would it hurt to strip the paint off with a chemical? What chemicals? Should i just respray it and be done?

3) When mounting stuff to the hull can I just silicone to screws and be done? Or do I need to get some rubber cement or something?
