What are the differences in the triple grip hooks?  Triple grip trebles, KVD Elite, 1X-2X (is this just strength?).
I was looking at them and it looks like the KVD elites 2X are the only ones with the smaller shank; so you can replace a size 4 with a 2.
Also, where do you guys buy your hooks.  I'd like to purchase them (the short shank) in more larger qtys instead of 5-10 at a time.

Thank you for your help.

You need to read the description carefully as some hooks use the 1X and 2X as a strength gauge, the Triple Grips have a 1X and 2X short shank. I'm happy with normal Triple Grip hooks but the KVDs are a really good hook with some minor differences for me the differences didn't matter enough for me to get them. If you want a better price for hooks go to Captain Hooks Warehouse, they have all kinds of hooks at great prices but you need to buy in 100 counts, you can only get 25 and 50 counts of the ultra expensive hooks.

Gamakatsu make a short shank treble. It is a 2x wire, which means that it has a thicker, stronger wire. I prefer the to the Mustads. They are way more "sticky" sharp, and have long, deep bends to keep fish buttoned. They also have a neat tapering eye for easy installation without split ring pliers. They are called "Magic Eye Short Shank". They are awesome!

Another thing to keep in mind is that a heavier gauge hook (4x as opposed to 1x say) might deaden the action, because it'll be heavier. I prefer to use the smallest and lowest gauge hook that (I think) I can get away with; a smaller hook will stand out less or so I think. I'm not trying to catch stripers or muskies though.
