So my bday was this month and as usual I got gander, basspro gift cards and tackle lol. My dad got me a popper plug, he talks about them all the time.. "back when I fished tournaments.. rable rable rable" I've never used one before so I've been playing around with it...
This thing is so much fun! I feel like I'm one of those ppl on the boats during shark week... freaking great white bass attacking the poor little popper lol. The past two days fishing down at my little mile round pond near the house I've caught the biggest bass out of there with this thing. ... now if only I can figure out how to get the hooks out of them without getting hooked myself.. owey.

depending which type popper you got, there are several presentations you can do with them so experiment. sometimes the classic pop, pause works, sometimes they want a more erratic presentation like popping it real fast with several consecutive snaps of the rod chugging it along then pause. or walking it with pauses which takes practice but need a popper with the skitterpop type design vs a hula popper etc...the hollow body poppers like the spro can do all the above as well...

nothing like having a fatty blow up on a topwater, especially in duckweed ;)
If a frog farts in the pads and no ones around to hear it, does it make a ribbit?

I know what you mean by the shark week thing, I have had bass hit them and jump about 8 inches out of the water, but big bass just slurp them down.

by the way, caught my first 20+" bass on a rebel pop-r.

Cabela's has an inexpensive lip grip which is great for holding fish with treble hooks in it.

That's a great inexpensive landing tool that Marty posted. nothing like a bass on topwater, thrashing like mad when your going to try and lip it! Now,add in nightime and the hook-in-hand chances go up!

i never leave home without my fishgrip, more so for the toothy ones but a helluva tool when ya need it...i also use it with my hook style scale for weighing since the fishgrip has the hole in the handle for the hook. slip the grip on the scale and then turn it on which will zero it out. then attach the grip to the lip of a fatty and it'll hold'em solid/safely...

Why not just get a Berkley digital lip grip, use the grip to hold and weigh the fish at the same time plus they are much easier on the fish.
