  1. Dodgeguy is correct. There was a really good article in In-Fisherman on this a month or so ago. They had fisheries "scientists" even and their conclusions were essentially the same as what dodgeguy has stated above.
  2. Hester, I have not had any line twist issues with this, if the beaver is straight. ***atic, by sideways, I mean instead of the beaver swimming flat(horizontal) it is rigged so the flat sides are vertical. Here is a picture of the normal rigged vs. sideways, maybe it will help.
  3. I am just the opposite, I like my Accurist PTs better than the Revos I had. I prefer the Quantum's centrifugal brakes and the Revos were too small for me. Drop me a line when you want to get rid of those crappy Accurist PTs, I'll take them off your hands real cheap.
  4. Welcome, more information here than you can shake a CARROT stick at.
  5. Gerald Swindle is number one for me, Greg Hackney is a close second. I have met both of them and they are both great guys.
  6. Well I am having mixed emotions over this. While I was at the Doc today for my left hand issues and decided not to go buy the Citica until I have surgery or whatever, my wife was out shopping and bought me a Quantum Code. She knows how happy I have been with my Quantums, and decided to stop by the local tackle shop on her way home from shopping. She has heard me comment that I would like to check the Code out, just to see how it performs. It seems to be a nice reel, a little odd looking, but so are my other Quantums. It is smooth on the cast and retrieve, which is quick with the Burner gearing. I am going to take it out for a good run tomorrow. I debated on taking it back, but I just can't bring myself to do it. She was so happy when she handed me the gift bag decorated with Shamrocks. She said it is my early St. Patrick's day gift. I guess the Citica will have to wait even longer. I thank God everyday for a family that supports me in my pursuit of fish and fishing gear.
  7. Some of you may have already done this, but I started doing this last week. I am using a RI Smallie Beaver(White Trash and Dirty Sanchez colors) rigged sideways with a screw in sinker. With the tails split, this thing gets great action. I fishing it like I would any soft jerkbait and am having pretty good success. This might be something to give a try.
  8. My favorite right now is my Quantum Accurist PT and G.Loomis MBR783C IMX. I am doing a lot of bank fishing right now, and only carry this one casting setup. I am throwing t-rig plastics, jigs, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and topwaters, this combo handles them all very well.
  9. Thanks for the advice guys, but I am going to wait on the Citica. I may have to start getting left hand crank reels. I just got back from the Doc, and I am going to need surgery on my left hand. The dystonia has gotten worse over the past few weeks, and he thinks I now have carpal tunnel which is making things even worse.
  10. Hey guys, especially the Shimano Possee, I probably going to get a Citica tomorrow. The performance of my two Symetres and you guys have convinced me to give Shimano baitcasters a try. From my previous experience with the Revo STX, the Curado is out of my price range for testing a reel. The Revo was too small for me due to my hand dystonia. So, which one would ya'll recommend; 100DSV, 200D, 200DPV, or 200DSV, and why? I am trying to understand the differences in these, but other than line capacity, I don't get it. I will take my MBR783 to mount in on, for feel, before I purchase. Any advice will be appreciated.
  11. My favorite all-purpose rod is the MBR783C IMX. I am still trying to figure out what it can't do, maybe throwing big swimbaits.
  12. Congrats, learning to use a baitcaster changes the way you fish and think about fishing. There is something about the sound of that spool spinning that fires you up. Let us know how the Citica does, I am thinking about getting one myself.
  13. My confidence bait is a spinnerbait. My favorite baits are two plastics; Zoom 6" Lizard and Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver 4.20.
  14. Don't make fun, both my kids are girls. If I am really bored, it doesn''t take much for my girls to talk me into playing Barbies, Bratz, or Hannah Montana. I do play my guitar alot or read old mystery novels most of the time. though.
  15. Countdowns are great, as are the UL size original floaters and husky jerks. I use alot of small shad style plastics(bright colors) with a 1/16 to 1/8oz ball jighead. One of the best ways to catch trout on spinning tackle is the Float and Fly method. You use one of the adjust-a-bubble floats(for casting weight) and any number of traditional trout flies(dry flies are my best producers). I have fished N.Georgia trout many times with fly-fishing and spinning tackle, the spinning float and fly method always catches more fish for me.
  16. Sam, blue/orange and purple/gold are tolerated alot more the past few years. The main colors to leave at home are orange/white(obvious) and blue/gold(ND which is all I have). The Atlanta Braves are the only real baseball team in America. George Wallace would have been the greatest President if he had been elected. The main thing to remember about sports in Alabama is; the Bear IS the greatest coach in college football, he helped hang the sun and moon, and God asks his advice on a daily basis. :-? Oh yeah, that snuff better be Copenhagen Fine Cut or you are a sissy and should be using a Barbie combo. Don't get me wrong, I love Alabama. I have lived here most of my life off and on. This is the one state that I know of where the stereotypes prove themselves correct on a daily basis. I better stop now.
  17. The Husky Jerk and Original Floating are the lures that Rapala has been identified with for a long time. Yeah they have Shads, X-raps, DT's, and many others, but those two are classics. The Husky Jerk is my favorite jerkbait, it performs it's purpose well. Wait, I think I hear the BM calling. Yeah, just in case, I'm going to go pickup around 30 or so.
  18. No problem, old reels are becoming a hobby of mine. I have a couple of other guys working on this, they are "reel" nuts. So far my date estimate seems to be correct. They think that this is probably a reel made by Bronson for Canadian/European markets. The design is very similiar to a few Bronson/J.A.Coxe reels, this is by the rivets and screws on the sideplates. Hopefully they can come up with some better information in the next couple of days.
  19. Thanks Burley I am only referring to barrel swivels and only with Senkos/Stickbaits, but thanks anyway. :
  20. Bassboy 15, I cannot read the sideplate information in the pic. It looks like it says POLARIS. I can find no reference to Polaris in my books that looks like this reel. It looks like a Bronson/J.A.Coxe design, by the steel piece fitted on the non-crank side and the reel foot. Shakespeare and Pflueger had some designs that looked very similar. Is this a left hand crank reel? I estimate this reel is from the late 1950's to early 1960's, but cannot be sure. Like the Abu Ambassadeur, these old designs didn't change much over the years. If you have any other information(wording on sideplates, stamped company ID), I could try a little more.
  21. I learned the palomar knot when I was fly-fishing for Largemouth and Stripers. It is the only knot I use anymore.
  22. Got any pics of the sideplates? That would help in identification.
  23. Thanks guys, I have always hated tying the swivel on. I just started fishing plastics last spring, and took the advice that was given. I noticed I never saw another swivel among most of the fisherman I am around. I am now fishing plastics 90% of the time. Their versatility and cost cannot be beat. The senko/stickbait is something I am still learning to use in different ways, and the swivel complicates it.
  24. I have never targeted bedding bass specifically, but have caught several that were spawning. I just don't have the patience. I always do a quick release anyway, usually use the pliers with them still in the water(it's easy in a kayak). I only take pics if they are "worthy" and if I remember my camera. Now bedding bluegill are another story .
  25. Thanks MaxDal. The pictures just got me thinking about spinning versus baitcasting in Europe. I find myself fishing my spinning gear alot more lately, since I am primarily fishing light and weightless plastics. There are tackle junkies everywhere, we have out fair share here in the states. I know guys that spend $1000's a year on gear, and hit the water once or twice. I was a dedicated flyfisherman for several years. The fly fishing scene here is smothered with them. Many of those guys had custom Bamboo rods, Tibor reels and boxes upon boxes of flies, but could not make a decent cast to save their lives. They can't catch fish and instead of working on techniques, they buy better gear. I think we all have more gear than we need though. Thanks for the reply and good fishing.
