  1. For my short rods, I use both a G.Loomis GL2 and a St.Croix Premier. Both of them are 6' MH, the St.Croix seems to be more of a true MH though. If you are going for one all-purpose short rod, I would look at the St.Croix Premier 6 M'(PC60MF).
  2. The Magic Swimmer is great, just cast and reel in. It does all the work.
  3. Yeah, I got one in Ghost Minnow and one in Chartreuse/Blueback. I appreciate your info. I have been using Jackall's Aragon SSR and Mann's 1-minus for my shallow cranking, and they both work great. While doing some sight-fishing with them, I noticed after they landed the fish came up and took a look, thinking about eating. As soon as the rattling started, the fish took off. Both of their rattles are fairly loud, almost like a trap. I did throw the Lucky CB's in the pool and really like their wobble. Gonna try them out tomorrow.
  4. What does this have to do with this thread.. "So What Will Quantum Do Now?" Reel Mech, this thread was highjacked the second the Shimano Possee showed up. One member even went back and changed his post to be less harsh.
  5. That kinda depends on you and what you plan to throw, doesn't it?
  6. Does anyone have any experience with these? I picked up a couple of the Fat CB BDS 2's. I was looking for some shallow cranks without rattles and these were suggested to me. I am hoping that they can fill a little gap in my shallow cranks.
  7. Here lately I usually have 6 rigs; 4 baitcasting and 2 spinning. The spinning don't get used much. I always have a spinnerbait rig and a crankbait rig, those are my confidence baits. The rest of the rigs are for plastics and jigs, baitcasting for heavy and spinning for light. I don't mind changing baits. When I open my tackle box, I'm like a kid in a candy store.
  8. I have to ask the question; if the Shimanos are the epitome of reels, then why have they discontinued a two year old design(D model Curado and Citica) and are now creating new models for 08? Could it be that they cannot compete with the Revo?
  9. I fished a 683c for several hours a couple of days ago. It is one great all-purpose rod. The Powell is giving my G.Loomis MBR783 IMX a run for my favorite all-purpose. I don't have one yet, but when I sell a few reels I'll get one of my very own. The Powell 683C lists for $170 and the G.Loomis lists for $245. I am not saying it is as sensitive as my IMX, but close. It is equal in all other characteristics. If I had the $130 that mentioned, it would be mine.
  10. Who are those masked men? Oh it's Skeet Reese and co-angler. It was cool during an interview when Skeet said that Ingall's Landing(where the boat ramp and docks are) is probably the best facility that the Elites have seen this year. Decatur has invested alot of money and time into this public launch and harbor.
  11. Derek Remitz, now from Madison, Alabama a few miles upriver.
  12. Hey guys, here are a few pics from this morning of the Southern Challenge on Wheeler. Please excuse the quality of the pictures, I just got the camera yesterday and still trying to figure it out. Shaw Grigsby
  13. RW, that is one post in the entire thread. I too am always hesitant when someone posts a bad experience(not just here but at retailer's sites also), but I need more than one person's experience(or the 5 years ago experiences when they were learning to use a baitcaster). Most of the people who bash Quantum here, admit to not using one in several years. I remember a few years back when Abu Garcia's low profiles were better used as paperweights, but now the Revo is hailed to no end(even by those without one). I still find it hard to believe that some of the biggest names in both BASS and FLW use Quantum if they are such crap(or turds as you have stated previously). I am very pleased with all of my Quantums, from the Accurist CX to the Energy PT(7 in all) and most of them are being fished hard at least three days a week without a single issue. I am also very pleased with my Shimano, Abu Garcia, and Daiwa reels, although they don't get used as much as the Quantums.
  14. Today on the way to Walmart for the dreaded grocery shopping, I had to stop for gas. Well guess who else was pumping gas, and alot more than me? Skeet Reese in that gigantic truck of his. My wife asked for his autograph and he told us to pull around to the hotel he is staying at. He autographed a Lucky Craft/Skeet Reese card for us and took a few pics. We chatted for a few minutes about Wheeler, the weather, his 2007 AOY, and being the father of two little girls(I have 2 young daughters as well). The problem was the only camera we had on hand was my cell phone. I am going to try to get the pics off tonight. He was gracious and genuine. I wished him good luck and as we were pulling out, Ish Monroe was pulling in and John Murray behind him. I didn't bother them but did wish them good luck. They both responded with honest thank you's. It has been awhile since my area has had a tournament of this level. I hope to get to meet more of the Elites tomorrow morning.
  15. I gotta have one or maybe three. That is an awesome concept, Megabass bring out some of the coolest ideas for lures. I haven't been keeping up with Megabass lately, Jackall has gotten all of my hardbait money. I am definitely getting addicted to Japanese lures.
  16. I think the reasoning for dropping prices is the same as Shimanos dropping, new models after ICAST. Other than the Code, Incyte and saltwater stuff, Quantum hasn't released anything really new since the Tour Edition PT in 06. I am betting that we are going to see a revamped Energy and Tour Edition that is smaller and lighter. I think the Code was an experiment for them, to see how we would respond to the smaller reel(although not as small as a Revo or Curado 100).
  17. 3/8oz double Colorado blade chartreuse and white spinnerbait!
