  1. These reels have been talked about alot on here. Do a search for "silver max", "black max", "abu garcia max", "max reels", or any combination. Set the search for 100 and year, that should yield plenty of info.
  2. I can't give any help, but I can sympathize. I went out the past couple days, Friday in a boat and today in my yak. I never even got a hint of a strike. I did catch a few last weekend fishing 1st and 2nd creeks, so you might want to try there. Good Luck and don't give up.
  3. I love the Java Monsters especially Big Black. The new flavors of Java Monster are pretty good too. They have Irish Blend, Russian, Chai-Hai, Low-Ball, and Nut-Up. I am very fond of the Irish Blend.
  4. I have used 2 ,3 ,and 4 piece fly rods for years and never had one come apart. Some of those were casting 10-12 weight line and giant flys. I have a SC Premier 2-piece casting rod that lives in the back of my car for pull-over fishing without any problems. I have always found it strange about the selection of multi-piece spinning rods vs. casting rods. One problem I have seen with beginner fly-rodders, is they just stick the pieces together with the eyes aligned, this is a no-no. You have to put the pieces together with the eyes at 90, then twist to align them.
  5. That's why they had to sell Cajun Brand Line to Zebco/Quantum, they were getting close to a "mono"poly ;D
  6. I have a few of those mice. I have a hard time casting them, even with a 10 weight rod. They do catch bass though, more exciting than a buzzbait bite.
  7. I have caught redfish before, but have only targeted them specifically a couple of times. I have used my snapper and cobia gear, or loaned gear. I just bought a Quantum Accurist PTS, but want to use one of my bass rods(until I can get a G.Loomis or comparable rod). Which one of these BC rods would you use? G.Loomis BCR803 (6'8" MH, extra fast) G.Loomis MBR783(6'6" MH, fast) Quantum Tour PT (7' M, moderate fast) I have a spinning setup that I plan on using as well, it's a Cabela's Salt Striker combo(30 size reel and 7' Medium).
  8. I was in the same boat. I could not decide between the Exceler and the Accurist. I had 4 Revo's, awesome reels, but too small for me. I took my G.Loomis BCR803 and MBR783 to the store to get it right. Once I mounted the Accurist's on them, I loved the way they felt. I have fished all but the PTS already, and they are great reels. I just wish I had figured it out before the Revo's(S,SX's, and STX).
  9. If anyone is interested, I have a FLW fantasy league for BR guys. If you want to join just PM me , and I'll send the name and password. You don't have to join FLW, just the fantasy fishing. It is free with the opportunity to win money.
  10. I just bought a few Accurist II's last week; 2 Accurist CX's, 2 Accurist PT's, and an Accurist PTS. I have used Abu Garcia all my life, and had a few Revos. The Revo's were just too small. I love the Quantum's. They are smooth, palm well, and look cool too. The are aluminum framed and best of all(for me), they have centrifugal brakes that are adjusted without removal of the sideplate. You can get the Gold Mist color at Walmart for around $30-$40 new.
  11. I do not know a company named DIAWA, but there is one named DAIWA that makes the Exceler. I have a Silver Max and have used an Exceler. The Silver Max is a really good reel, but in this price range, the Exceler is a great reel. My question to the Shimano Posse is, if the Citica is such a great reel, why does Shimano have to give a rebate(that places it in the below $100 price range) for people to buy it? ;D
  12. I would like to join.
  13. Red, what's wrong with Big Game. I love it, use it 90% of the time. To your question, for jigs and T-rigs, I reeeaaalllyyy like the Trilene Professional 100% Flouro. It is a little on the $$, but is an excellent line.
  14. I agree with Red, but I have also become partial to the Accurist and Daiwa Exceler. You can get a good deal($30 to $50) on the Accurist CX right now, Quantum has discontinued the CX, and everyone has discounted them. The Exceler is an excellent reel for around $70.
  15. Catt, he didn't specify cost, but said cheap. A Castaway and Calcutta would be at least $250-$350, not exactly inexpensive. In that price range, he has alot of options.
  16. For inexpensive(I dislike the word cheap, inexpensive does not always mean cheap), I agree the Lightning Rods are hard to bet. I have several that are my beater rods. An Ugly Stick would also be a good choice. A happy "medium" would be a 6'6" MH action. An excellent new model reel that I really like is the Daiwa Exceler. There are some good deals on discontinued models right now, too. I just got 2 Quantum Accurist CXs for $30 each. Walmart has them for $40. They also have the Coriolis for $25. I have a 6'6" MH Lightning rod and Abu 5500 C3 that was my favorite spinnerbait combo for a long time.
  17. Yeah he's been sponsored by BPS for awhile, but I can't figure out what products of their's he uses. Although I think he will go the Zebco/Quantum route, it would be cool to see BPS create a Brauer series rods and reels. He is one of the few pros on a TV show that still seems to have fun and put a little instruction into the program;i.e. Strike Kings Pro Team Journal.
  18. Jay signed with Fenwick and Abu Garcia, which are in the Purefishing family. He already used Berkley products, another Purefishing company. They are in no way associated with Daiwa. I am betting that Denny will be picked up by Zebco/Quantum, like several of his Strike King buddies.
  19. The reason I get hand "cramps" is due to a disorder called focal hand dystonia, better known as "violinist's hand". It is not the normal cramp associated with fatique, and is not painful. I was diagnosed with this when I was 13 and playing classical guitar and piano. The more difficult a passage was, the more likely that my hands would seize up and stop moving. It has to do with motor/sensory problems with repetitious movements. I never thought that it would occur fishing, but it has. It seems to be alleviated by using larger reels and holding a little different(kinda the way Shaw Grigsby and Hank Parker do).
  20. I thought it was hilarious!!!!
  21. Although my wife will kill me if she finds the new reels, the bait monkey is happy. I used my store credit from the Revo SX today, plus some cash :. The Revos have been making my hands "cramp" alot lately due to their small size. I have tested several other low profile reels, with my favorites being the Diawa Exceler and the Quantum Accurist. Well I ended up with the Quantums, I bought 2 Accurist PT's, 2 Accurist CX(on serious sale $30 each) and an Accurist saltwater PT. All of the PTs have rebates available too, I'll get $30 back for each reel. These reels feel good to me and are a little bigger than other low profiles, more like my beloved Abu rounds but lighter. I put them all on rods and went out to the lake this afternoon for about 4 hours, caught several fish and no hand cramps.
  22. I think it depends on what you are using the rod for. For plastics and jigs, I don't think any other rod offers the sensitivity of G.Loomis. I have 4 Loomis rods all with different blanks; a GLX, an IMX, a Mossyback, and a GL2. I use the GLX and Mossyback(feels almost as sensitive as my GLX to me) for plastics and jigs, and the IMX and GL2 are all-purpose rods. I do not regret the cost of any of my G.Loomis rods, but you are buying a name also. If you are going for all around rods, you can get an equal rod for less money. Heck I use less expensive St.Croix, Quantum, and even Berkley Lightning Rods, just depends on how I feel that day.
  23. I like a 7' Medium, fast tip.
