A split shot is just a light weight and maybe mini C-rig. If C-Rigs work when the bit is tough, then consider trying a drop shot rig when the bit is impossible. Use hand poured worms.
Drop-shot is a finesse technique but suspends the bait above the bottom and that is a killer presentation. I'm noticed that if you're catching a bunch of little ones on on drop-shot then throw in with a c-rig big bait. Like a Zoom Brush Hog.
I vary dark water like you're asking about, I would try white and chartreuse and black and chartreuse conditions. If it's sunny, a great color is June bug. I'm talking soft plastic colors. And green pumpkin is always great that's why its so popular.
I did some more searching and found this great article as well: another site
and there is always another site
There is a lot of good stuff out there if you use Google.
Spinnerbaits are one of the best baits to use, but they don't always work. For one it is mostly a shallow bait so the fish have to shallow and it is a reaction bait and if the fish are not active they may not take it. But when they're on this bait, it can be a strokefest.
There are a bunch of great spinnerbait articles on this site: http://www.bassresou...ures.html#lures
I like this article a lot: http://www.bassresou...s_fishing.html.
I really like Yamamoto products but when using the shaky rig I want a worm tail to float. Salt makes the worm tail sink. I think Zoom baits are too hard so I started using Conquistador worms but they have been out of stock for months, so I found magicworms. I use them along with Cossa tackle. But the magic worms are better.
