What Make/model/brand Is This Reel?
Thanks for the help guys. Maxximus, it was recovered with about 6 other Zebco 33's and one Super Zebco model 22. I'll keep researching it. Thanks again. These were probably put under the porch by my grandmother and she just forgot they were there. More sentimental value than anything.

What Make/model/brand Is This Reel?
Hi there everyone. I rescued this reel (and several others) from years of storage under the back deck of the lake house. They were placed there and forgotten about. This reel was left in a bucket with water and dirt for probably more than 10 years. I cleaned it up, but it has no cover and no backing. There is no writing on this reel at all. I'm guessing this reel was bought in the 70's or 80's. Does anyone have any idea what make/model/brand this reel is? Thanks!

Travel Case for rods
Mikeinma, This is what I did. I purchased a Flambeau Bazuka tube off ebay (Cabala's has them on sale now for $39-$49). The manufacturer states the regular tube can extend to 87 (6.5 feet) and the Bazuka Pro can extend from 73 out to 102 (I have the regular Bazuka tube and not the pro). Upon inspection, I noticed the regular Bazuka rod holder can extend to just over 7 feet, but this leaves an extremely weak section in the middle where the two pieces join together. This portion is the weakest section of the case regardless and a heave piece of luggage will crush this joining section. So I went to Home Depot and bought a $13.00 section (10 feet I think) of the Black PVC piping (Not the less expensive White PVC pipe because it can shatter with a solid impact). This will fit inside the regular Bazuka Tube (with a lot of swearing, a rubber mallet and a little lubricant it will fit). Now I have a 7'3 Bazuka Rod holder with a PVC insert for added strength. This increased the total weight of the Rod Holder by a lot (not sure of the total weight; I'll check tonight and get back to ya). I put padding in both ends and now this thing is nearly indestructible and built like a tank. I am sure there are easier ways to get this same job accomplished, but I prefer to do things the difficult way Either way, I would recommend reinforcing the joining section of the Flambeau Bazuka rod holder if you go that route. Also, I have heard some people have problems with the closing latch/lock breaking off. Mine looks very sturdy and I have not had any issues. If it does break, you can still keep it closed with a padlock. You will also need another padlock at the center joining section of the rod holder. There are also many diagrams online showing how to make rod holders out of PVC. These look sturdy also. Have fun.

Quantum 1170 questions
reelmechanic, First off, thanks for your input. Greatly appreciated. As for my first question and answer, I'm going to have to hit the BassPro and have them show me. I slid it over and pulled, twisted, pushed, cursed and tried again and couldn't get anything to open. I recently moved over to the baitcaster (about a year ago) and I'm still learning the mechanics. The only thing I knew about the cast control cap was how to set up the drop of the lure based on twisting it till the lure started to drop. Beyond that, I don't know a lot about it. The web site you listed helped out a lot. Thanks for taking the time to post it. Once I figure out how to open the side plate and take out the spool, I will be set. Thanks again for your input!

Quantum 1170 questions
Hey y'all, I have a couple of questions about a new reel I recently purchased. I found a good deal on ebay for a Quantum 1170. The reel appears to be in perfect condition and looks brand new in the box. One small problem is, the operating instructions that came with it are for a Daiwa. I have never owned an 1170 before and not sure exactly how it operates (still fairly new to baitcasters in general). My questions are: 1. On the underside of the reel and near the front is a small black slide button that moves right to left (as you're looking at it). What is this button for? 2. How do I remove the spool to change out with an extra spool of different line? 3. The turn knob just behind the star drag/handle; what is it for? It appears to tighten up the spool, but not exactly sure. 4. Are there Operating Instructions located online (been searching all morning and cannot find anything)? 5. Can I purchase an extra spool and if so, where? Thanks for your help. James S.

40% off most St. Croix @ Reedssports....
All, As an FYI for those that may purchase additional rods during this sale: I took a very close look at the rod I received and noticed many scratches and locations where the paint has flaked off. This damage appears to be cosmetic only and should not affect the use of the rod. The only problem is, I wanted to be the one to put the first big scratch on my $150.00 dollar rod.... Not sure what I am going to do. >

40% off most St. Croix @ Reedssports....
All, I just added a TBC70HF to the arsenal. Also, to add to previous posts, the sales person I spoke with said, as the rods came in, they would be adding more to the sale soon. Sounds like you can keep an eye out for more rods to be available soon (no time frame provided or estimate of when the rods would be available).

GL2 vs GL3
I am new here, so I'll preface this with, "it's the new guy's opinion". I have only "handled" the GL2 in the store. I decided to go with the GL3 because it felt better in my hand (can't really explain why, sorry). This rod had handled several bass up to 4lbs (no monsters yet). I have been fishing this rod for about 6 months now. IMHO, this rod is what I was expecting for the price. I like the IMX series also, but the price is a little more than what I was looking to spend. I have a Shimano Curado 200 DHSV mounted and the combination works great for me. I am able to cast accurately and fish all day with this combo. Unfortunately, to be 100 % certain, I think you're going to have to try it out and see if it's a good match for you. It definitely has for me. Good luck and let me know how things work out.
