I have a 1956 14' Alumacraft Vee with a Johnson 9.9 that I got from my Uncle. I moved the middle bench seat towards the rear one. I did this because I didn't want to sacrifice hull integrity and to give myself a little more room in the middle of the boat. I then decked the front and over both rear benches leaving the middle open. I made a hatch in the front for storage underneath. I used 7" pedestals with low rise seats. The boat feels more solid than before. I fish mainly strip mines and lazy rivers and have not had any stability issues with it. It could be that my brother helped me mod it and he is the only one who has fished out of it since, so he knows how to handle it. I would show a pic but it is buried under a cover and 10" of snow now. :-[
