Thanks for the feedback! The consensus thus far seems to be 6 1/2 foot med heavy.
RW- I'm wondering if the tip on the med heavy Avid is "less soft" than the med??
Unfortunately I don't have anywhere around where I can check these out in person.
Hi Guys,
I'm looking to add another rod to my arsenal and I'm thinkin about a 6 - 6 1/2 foot Avid Med or Med Heavy Casting Rod. I'd like to add a rod that's a bit more of an "all arounder" to throw 1/4 oz - 3/8 oz jigs, texas rigs, spinnerbaits and the occasional jitterbug or devil's horse.
I received a 6'2" Med Xfast rod as a gift some months ago and mostly use this rod for unweighted soft plastics (4 & 5 inch Senkos).
Any input?
Hi All.
Long time lurker first time poster with a question.
I received a 6'2" Avid med power extra fast action baitcast rod as a gift. Lure weigt range is 1/4 oz to 5/8 oz. What applications would this rod be good for? I've read a lot of the posts on the forums concerning rod powers and actions and honestly they leave me a bit confused.
I've been using a 6' med power fast action Avid for the past few years. I typically throw texas rigged worms or lizards with a 1/8 to 3/16 bullet weight or light to med jigs: 3/16 - 3/8. Sometimes I throw and x rap or a jitterbug or popper and the occasional senko
I know I shouldn't use the extra fast rod for treble hook lures. Do you think the extra fast would do well as a texas rig, jig, and unweighted soft plastic rod. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to try the new rod yet.
Thanks in advance for your help. I've learned an awful lot reading the informative posts on this board.
