A really basic question; sorry if this has been asked but I could not find it in the archives. What is the thing to do when a fish jumps? Give slack or keep the line tight?

Hello All: I understand that many rig the Crawbug on a jig. But my question is what about a Texas Rig. If I hook it so the curve is under the lure, with the point entering on its underside, I am afraid the hook will interfere with the lure's presentation as it drags across the bottom. On the other hand, if the hook's curve goes over the top, will that affect the hooking of the lure. As plastic worms don't have a "top" and "bottom," this isn't an issue for that type of soft bait. (I apologize is this is a stupid question.)
