  1. Probably going there for my first time this weekend . My son still wants smalls ...and I wouldn't mind hooking another Pike . Only a half hour drive so what the hell ... But is it worth it ... anyone fish there ??
  2. Wow !!! what a crazy day at Webster Lake . Started off tubing with a strike king bleeding tube and tube insert jig head . And caught my first smally ( and boy was he ) worked my fav rapala subwalker .. nothing . Then I switched off to a drop shot rig using 5" Tiki worms ( all the while throwing a few different spinner baits whith no hits at all ) anyway was using the darkgreen pumpkin ones .. I caught 2 big pickerel .. at least 2-4 lbs . We moved around a bit .. I kept working the Tiki .. then BOOM I had something real big .. I only have on 12lb test on a 6 1/2 foot All Star med hvy . The fricken pole was bending in half ... I was so afraid of snapping the line .. then I brought what I thought was going to be a HUGE bass close enough to the boat to see him . It was a Pike about 3/4's the length of one of my oars .. I have no idea what he might of weighed but he pulled my pole in half like it was nothing .It took a few but I got him close .. So now I've got him within netting distance . I'm trying to net him with one hand ( well maybe at least his head ) and bring him close enough with the other ... for 2 or 3 minutes I tried every time he knew I was getting close enough he'd run and dam nearly pull the pole out of my hands ... then finally he wrapped himself around the anchor line and took care of me trying to get him into the boat .... SNAP ..... UGH .... that was the biggest fish I ever had hooked .. after standing there for 20 minutes looking at my son saying .... did you see how big he was ... I kept fishing ... bunch of large mouth . Ended up using a whole 10 pack of Tiki's . So I throw a plastic minnow looking thing my dad gave me on the drop shot rig and catch this .. My trolling motor battery died ( the post melted right dow inside the battery ) so I was rowing half the day ... but I had a blast ... I have to ask Mass Hole Mike about Quabbin I've seen him mention that place a few times
  3. looks like I'm going to Webster Lake in the am . My 9 year old talked me into it . I guess we'll just try to stay close to the shore and hope we don't get " swelled " to death . I figure the Monday morning after a July 4th weekend might be a tad less busy . Anyone got some spots or points they want to suggest ??
  4. I live on the Hopedale - Milford line in Mass . What are my options as far as places to go starting with what would be closer . Obvious choice is Webster Lake , but I've only got a 12 ' jon and a 40 lb thrust trolling motor . I don't want to be blown out of the water by speedboats . Any small ponds housing smallies nearby ???
  5. 15 miles in any direction from mansfield I work 5 minutes from Mansfield ... ( starts Google mapping area ) awesome Bass ... congrats !!! and real nice job fighting the urge to bring that one home !! nice release !!!
  6. No kidding ... I work in North Attleboro . Live in the Milford/Medway area . The local ponds aren't totally ice free yet .. I could use another week to get my act together anyway ...
  7. that's awesome !! ;D here's a few more my " Finding Nemo " shot this guy I caught yawning nice smally
  8. Pics He came right up to me ... the reflection was tough but I still took about 100 shots . There was no one there ..
  9. ;D thanks for the input guys the only reason I had a 70 lb in mind ... was because it will be the only motor on the boat . I thought being able to fly across the water would be a great option all kidding aside ... BPS is having their Sale starting Friday . And they have a 40 lb thrust for 120.00 I would spend some extra coin on a decent used one if I could find one . I've been hawking my local Craigslist and ebay is a joke these days . Everyone wants to charge you 10 times what the actual shipping cost is .
  10. Hey Surfer ... Thanks for the info .... greatly appreciated . Any suggestions for a affordable charger ... I see so many out there
  11. First off will a 40# thrust be enough for a 12' jon ? or should I look for a 70# this will be the only motor on the boat . I fish small ponds so no need for a lightning point A to B . Just want to putter around the pond while I fish . suggestions for batteries the best way to charge / discharge
  12. wow ... definately a good deal . There's one just like it in my area for sale but with a 8 horse motor for 1500.00 so I'd say " Nice Score " good luck
  13. I'm wondering if Bass ... when they start getting over 10 lbs ... would even hit 95 % of the stuff in my tacklebox , due to size . I would think it would be easier and more efficient for a bass that big to eat bigger prey ( say a decent size trout ) leading to not having to spend the energy to feed as much . Making them harder to catch just for that reason alone . Nevermind all the other factors . My high weight this past season was 6.8 lbs . Caught on a Spinnerbait .. in a pond hardly anyone fishes at . I've only seen one other boat there all season . I think there might be a 12 lb in there somewhere . I've caught monster pickerel in there too .. the bass must feed on them ..
  14. ;D nope no Newport for me ... Woonsocket for 20 years or so ... but no Newport . I'm right over the border in Milford MA now ... I guess I'll have to swing over to that link and check things out !!
  15. Hey Low_Budget_Hooker !!! thanks for the link ... that 12 ' came out awesome . Definatley some inspiration for ideas .
  16. wow ... a few fellow New Englanders on this forum I see .. I've been checking out all the projects on the site .. lot of cool things being done . more research .. more thought ... really just need to go out in the back yard flip the boat over sit in it and plot out a plan ...
  17. hey !!!!!! thanks for the welcome !! that's what I'm thinking .... safety issues . I don't want my 8 year old going over for a swim . any suggestions for making life a little more comfortable on a 12 ' I really like some of the projects I've seen on here ( especially the above posted one ). And have access to a ton of tools , alum extrusion framing . and what not . 90 % of the time I fish standing up so a deck of some sort would be ideal . But of course I've got to be able to sit down once in a while . Maybe just deck from the front seat to the middle and put a non pole chair right on the bench seat and then just put another on the back seat for my son .
  18. or will I fall over board reaching for a lure ?? in all seriousness I have a thick gauge alum. jon with 3 standard bench seats ( well the front seat is just little right up up to the tip ) . It's only 12 foot but it seems to be a little wider than a standard one . Question is ... can I put 2 pole type seats up on decks in some way ?? I only have plans to put a decent trolling motor on it ... where I'll be fishing it I have no need for anything bigger
