  1. Fish the 5 inch and under swimbaits any time you would throw a spinnerbait. They are $$$ over weeds and through weeds that are thick for Rattle Trap style baits. deadstick them in spawn, slow swim them just deep of the beds when you see males on the beds, the females are waiting for an easy meal just like a swimbait
  2. Use any scented Kickin Bass and you'll kick bass!! I think most scents on the market are there to mask anything you may have done to the bait. It shouldn't really matter and I doubt if a fish ever turned away from a jig cuz it had shad or garlic scent on it and not crawdad. Remember, things that are alive in water move. Sticks and rocks fall straight, plants grow tall, anything else is pray. You just want prey to smell like prey and not tobacco, nasty hands, or other chemicals that would deter a fish
  3. Aside from small ponds in NewRo, the best Bassin is in the Croton Watershed. It's a series of reservoirs that supply drinking water for NYC and surrounding areas. I do most of my fishing in the Kensico Reservoir, about 10 minutes from the New Rochelle exit. Fishing is tough as you need a state permit to access the land, even if fishing from shore. You can keep an aluminum rowboat at the reservoir but can't remove the boats due to the threat of water pollution. I also believe they are not allowing new boats but you can share/ get access if you make nice with people. NYbass.com is a good spot to go to talk about sharing/gaining access to someones rowboat. Once in a boat on all NYC reservoirs you'll row a TON to catch fish. But like any body of water, once you get spots you're in good shape. Better Small mouth than large mouth fishing for the most part in the Croton watershed reservoirs.
