  1. might sound weird, but i might downsize the hook. I usually use a #2 gama drop shot hook, or at the largest a 1/0 gammy. Also like said earlier, reel down and sweep your rod. No eratic hook set. Were you nose hooking the bait? my final thought is you want to have the hook pointed up. to ensure this you need to run the line back through the eye of the palomar knot.
  2. i've gotten pretty good this past year with skipping senkos (rigged texas or weightless), and sweet beavers. The beaver has a great profile to skip a very good distance, but the sekno works great as well. I have done really well with spinning gear, but not baitcasting reels. I havent getten the skipping without backlashing yet. anyway, i fish out of a pontoon, so it is easy for me. I cast side arm, about a foot to a foot in a half over the water and parallel. A simple flip of the wrist parallel to the water will help you greatly. if you are from a boat, you will need to put your rod tip down, closer to the water and try flickin it there parallel to the water. GL! and try those baits, then skip well, but sky is the limit. I;ve seen guys skippin cranks under docks and snagging some toads.
  3. im covered in it...lol >
  4. dang, that is pretty cool...wish more states would do that. im down with the replica and pictures.
  5. i agree with that, but delta and clear lake aren't putting out those 20lb fish...southern cali is...mmmmmm trout The only problem with the Trout stocking thing is that neither Clearlake or the Delta, arguably 2 of the top 10 fisheries in the world are not stocked with trout.
  6. im gonna have to disagree with you bigbill. I lived in cali all my life, and now go to school in oregon. there is no way i can find fish similar in size to cali's. There are no florida strains in oregon. Too cold, thats why you wont find 14+ pounders here. The biggest bass are in southern california. The most, well there in any pond that bill dance fishes.
  7. first off, not just females are important to breeding. you need the males to make the beds and help protect them as well. You ask what the big deal is well, is you were on the west coast salmon fishermen are out of jobs due to their being no open season anymore. Japan has almost harvested all their tuna left to them. Thats what happens if everyone started taking 5 away from the lake. Plus small fish have had chances to spawn as well. Those 12-14 inchers have already been through a year of spawning. So it should be looked down on as well for keeping those guys. If you want to eat fish really bad, help out nature and go to places that need to be thinned out a bit. Eat those. Bass fishermen dont get stocking like trout fishermen. People catch a stringer of trout and they are replaced the next week by fish and game. Bass fishermen dont get that.
  8. check back a couple pages...there is a post about this
  9. i hate fishing from the shore for that reason of carrying the rods...if its legal, i will always drop my float tube in, it hold 4 rods and thats plenty for me in most lakes.
  10. you have to get it certified and weighed on a certified scale...pictures taken, measurements taken, and fish and wildlife should be there to review the fish. make sure it was not false hooked, or that their was no tampering with the fish. dont just weight it take a picture and throw it back...keep it in the livewell...take lots of pics, measuerments, and make sure it is on a certified scale, then call for the park ranger or fish and wildlife.
  11. 1.) scott martin challenge 2.) linders angling edge (i dont care what people say, he sets it up to teach people how to fish, not show off how many stock filled ponds they fish to nail LM time after time. 3.) A day on the Lake 4.) North American Fishermen 5.) City Limits Least favs 1.) Roland Martin 2.) Bill Dance 3.) Jimmy HOuston 4.) Just one more cast 5.) FLW
  12. all you need is to rake rake rake...then throw a scum frog over the top...or puncture a t rigged plastic through it...will give plenty of spot to spawn and for fish to hide
  13. jigs are the number one most versatile bait you can use. Jig them, drag them, bounce them, swim them. Add any trailer you want. I would start with a 1/2 oz jig so that you have good feeling with the rod. Use about 14-17 lb fluro. Practice draggin the jig, pitching it and flippin it. A lot of times with a jig you will get a pressure bite. where it just gets heavy. set the hook!! swing real hard with jigs. cant strike out in fishing. soon you will learn the feeling from the weeds, and a fish or a stick. i always prefer hand tied jigs with a rattle and weed guard. but really just get out there and start flippin them. use a trailer tho, i like brush hog or sweet beaver.
  14. use them the whole year...if you worried that they are suspended, throw a weightless senko, they will hit it on its decent. i would take one of your crawdads and use it as a trailer on a jig...always a good cold water bait...just drag it along the bottom
  15. anything that doesn't go in my livewell...in that case, in my club...n e thing less then 13 inches is a dink...when fun fishing....all is good
  16. i also feel that they usually try to make it back to the general region...although i feel that during the spawn, they will seek out a bed that they feel is suffice
  17. best cold water bait IMHO is a jig with pork trailer...you can use plastic if you want. Work it slow, with muddy water try blck/bl or blck/yellow. Just drag it along the bottom. Also might try slow rolling a colorado blade on a chart/white or a black blade. When the water just starts to heat up try a lipless crank or rip bait with long long pauses...i wouldn't go top water yet...just MO
  18. what size and action...do you have experience with the megaforce?
  19. Hey guys, buddy sent me over to this site. Seems very very knowledable. I like what i see ...have a questions already for you guys. Got a Daiwa MegaForce for real cheap (35$). I know it's not one of Daiwa's elite lines, but for the price i couldn't pass it up. It's got the twitch bar on it, dunno if I'll like it or use it however. I was wondering if you can give me some advice on what to team it up with as far as rods. Anybody have a MegaForce...what are their strengths? Thank you.
