I checked out an Elite Tech just the other day. That "50/50" action is crazy. I think it might be too much for me. I have a goal this year to, pretty much, learn to fish cranks. I've been a plastic worm guy all my life. I'd try different things all the time, but that was my mainstay. Over the past few years, I've gotten more serious about the sport and have really tried to expand my knowledge and skills. This year, I want to learn how to fish cranks. I figured I should start out with a dedicated cranking rig. Well, dedicated in the sense that I would use it for crankbaits and spinners and chatterbaits too.
I'm going to still keep things small though. Right now, I have a MH HMG that I use along with a MH spinning rig. That's it. I decided, a few years back, to dump all my old gear and rebuild. I planned to get a new reel and rod this Spring (l looked at 7' Techna or ETech Pitchin' stick) and use my current rig for cranks. But I know I really should have a good Medium rod for that. So I thought I'd put the new reel on the HMG and upgrade to a cranking rod.
Was that too much information? Ha! You all just seem to really know your stuff here. I like the help. Plus, no one really understand how tricky decisions like this really are, except for other anglers. Right? For my level of fishing, it sounds like I would do just fine for my crankbaits if I stuck with another HMG. The Techna feels great and is a tad lighter, and I'd like to own one, but I'm not fishing every day. Heck, I'm not fishing every week.
