  1. No kidding, That's why I'm avoiding beaver dam. Last time I went, I was totaly oblivious to them until someone mentioned about them here and I remember my wife telling me where I went because she found a tick in my closet. Doh! I even found one walking up my leg one time I was exploring a pond in the neighborhood. I felt the little thing crawl up and I looked and saw him and killed him right away. I'm definateling using some insect spray next time I go fishing and constantly checking my legs hahaha

I never thought about the action of the worm due to the screw head type. It's just frustrating when you throw it out there and find the worm has come off when you wheel it in. I guess I can switch worms
  3. Anyone know the story behind that? I thought it was public resevior but now private because the only public access has been closed? On the DGIF site, it said it was closed due to terroist threats, intro of zebra mussel species, etc. What a load of BS. I think the residents there threw it in to lock people out and keep it to themselves.

First of all, thanks to the company for mailing me some samples. I used it a few times but one thing I find is it's hard to keep the shaky worm from Shaw Grisley on the thing. The screw head is just too big and the worm comes off it easily. I was wondering why didn't you guys consider using the thing wire screw type like the football ones I have? they hold on to the worm much better.
  5. I tried out the small Brookfield one and lots of blue gills and there's a big gold fish in there The bigger pond, I don't think you can access it because it's behind the Fairfax county parks building. I believe it said no un-authorized people allow and it had a gate around the facility. If you look, there's another pond on Old Lee Road on the right side. I tried there for a few minutes but didn't get a bite. Tell me how the rest go. I've lost faith in ponds around there because most are low or hold small fish. I've only seen golf course ponds do well for me. It's too bad because I live around that area and would love to fish close by on a week night. Oh and 1 last thing, use Mapquest.com. They have updated pictures compared to google. I use google to scan and then mapquest for a better updated pic.
  6. How did you do today? I drove by today along stonecroft and all I saw was no fishing/trepassing signs. I was tempted because I saw a guy walk out of that hidden pond but then a cop strolled by and that nixed it.
  7. Tried the creek today along the banks for about an hour. got skunked but did get little bites. The creek is waist high and I'll have to come back next weekend and try wading thru it. I heard it's better on the West bank from a local guy. It's tough to fish from the bank from the east side for sure.
  8. I tried to find the large pond but couldn't see it from the street. I did fish the small one and nothing but blue gills. Anyone fished the ponds off Avion Pkwy?
  9. I'm looking at google map and I see 2 ponds at the end of that road.. are those the ones you are talking about? I'm sure if you go on the weekends, it'll be ok. My friend and his pocket bike buddies would practice on the parking lots in that area so I'm sure it's ok as long as you give them a reason to kick you out. I'll have to check it out this weekend.
  10. Yea, looking at google maps, it's the road by Goose Creek Golf Course. Is the water treatment pant on Hearford Lane off 659? looks like a Dam there?
  11. Anyone know where one can get public access to that creek? I checked out Sycolin Rd but there doesn't seen to be a parking and path down to the creek but boy that house on that creek is money. I saw a road that may or may not lead to the Dam. Has anyone tried that? How about the path from BeaverCreek Dam from the Resevior Rd side?
  12. I don't have a boat. She was snagged 3 feet from shore. I just found a spot in between the fallen tree and threw it in there and wham. Funny thing though. I did pay for snagging her. I was so excited that I didn't watch my footing, stepped on mud and bam, I lost my footing and went in. But I still held on to the rod!! hahah I wish I had a boat because there was another spot I wanted to hit right across where I was. Nitro, I pm'ed you.
  13. Went fishing yesterday at the potomac before the storm. The water levels were almost normal and the water was clear. Caught my self a sun fish and then a 1lb 4oz smallie on a rappala. After awhile there were no bites so we left and went to another spot. On my first throw in an area on the banks with a fallen tree and a over hanging tree, I hit pay dirt. A 4lb 4oz LMB took my purple senko. I was tightening up the slack when I felt something and decided to set the hook. That's a new PB for me and it felt good. Too bad she was so close to the shore. I would love to feel the fight on that one from long distance. Caught a few more dinkers on the senko along the shore before the storm came roaring thru. I also tried a White/Chartreuse spinner with no hits and a Mepp's #3 which got some hits but nothing was hooked.
  14. That place is tough to fish and no they don't rent boats. They don't have any facilities there. And yes there's ton's of ticks. I got bit all over my legs last time i went out but so far it doesn't look like Lyme Disease (I Hope). I think it will get better once all the grass grows. The best luck I had there was throwing a red baby Mann's minus 1 on it along the grass. They were however dinkers. Where did you guys fish? Did you guys try out the Dam?
  15. I tried out Dominion Club for about 30 mins until I saw the no tresspassing sign. I did manage to hook a small little sun fish that attacked my Mann's Baby minus 1 hahah. I tried the large lake acroos nuchols for about hour and ahalf and got a dinker and a keeper probably around 1.5 lbs on a white spinner. That's a nice spot and I'll have to try it next time I'm in town.
  16. Thanks SAM! will try those. Any keeper size in those lakes or am I looking at Dinkers? how about the big lake at Dominion Club? Got to have fish in there.
  17. I had to look that up. Is Bream carp? Not really. Looking to do some LMB/SMB
  18. Heading down to Richmond this weekend. Any recommendations on ponds/lakes/rivers around the Short Pump/Shady Grove area I can hit for fun? Thanks
  19. Hhahah yea. I went twice on a boat owned by my wife's friend. We trolled the bay for them and I know where to do it. I just need a boat hahah And let me tell you, Striper is good eats! It's the only thing I would eat if it was caught in the potomac.
  20. I been told by a friend that those 2 scenic parking spots are way up the cliff from the potomac. You can't really see that from google but I thought I saw a trail leading down to the bank. If anyone interested in fishing there on a weekend let me know.. Stripper season opens up on the 16th. I'm hoping to get them from there instead of fletcher's but I have a feeling that place will be swarmed with people.
  21. Nice, did you fish the stumps where there's a little trail from the pathway when walking from Wagon Trail or up the path where the overflow is and you have to climb down from the path to get to the bank? I tried both, lost my spinner and got skunked.
  22. Paul, Nice fish.. are those coves accessible by foot? The bass still eludes me there. I did catch a carp on Shaky Head. My friend said chartruese/white spinner works too.
  23. I think people don't post for the general public but will PM the spot. It's just in people's nature to let a few in on the secret but don't want to the whole world to join where it becomes over crowded and ruin the experience for everyone.
  24. Well it's on the GW Parkway on the VA side. 1 is right across from fletcher and the other one is upriver but not too far. I would be fishing from VA shores but the water is DC. Does that count?
  25. Anyone know if you can fish off the 2 scenic parking lots off GW Parkway across from Flether's boat house?
