I've now got a wiffle spool (from a 5600WS) in my 5601 JB. A straight swop, and what a beautiful reel! Any suggestions on spools for my 4601 & 6601? I still suspect that the RCN 41 & 61 spools may fit, I've tried asking ABU parts, they didn't know, anyone out there got a RCN & a standard Ambassadeur who could compare spools? Please?

Go with whatever suits you! Having said that, I am right handed, and I only use left hand wind reels. I honestly think that's the logical way round, to avoid as you say, constantly changing the rod from one hand to other every cast, and if some muscle is needed with a big fish on, you'll want to be holding the rod with your strong hand. I think most right handers only use right hand wind baitcasters because until recently that was all you could get. Most right handers use left hand wind spinning reels without even thinking about it. If you go back in history pre baitcasters, you had single action reels (similar to fly reels) fitted below the rod, left hand wind. When these reels improved, and you became able to cast direct from the reel, someone presumably had the bright idea that if you fitted it on top of the rod you could control the spool with your thumb, so instead of re-engineering it to become left hand wind above the rod, they just moved it round & it became right hand wind. Now you've got a pretty good choice of left hand wind reels, you've no reason to suffer poor ergonomics any more. Make the change, it's worth it!

Thanks Guys! My reels are already in effect C5's, with upgraded bearings etc. I was pretty sure the 5600WS spool would fit, but I'd really like to know if the Record spools will drop in as well. I've checked the schematics, and while the Record spool shaft is different, that could be just because of the extra bearings in the sides. Maybe this spool would actually fit/work on the standard C3/C4/C5 shaft? Anyone got one they could try for size

Hi all, New to the forum, hope you can help me out.... I'm thinking of fitting wiffle spools to some of my Ambassadeur reels: 4601C3, 5601JB, & 6601C4. Any recommendations as to which spools I could use, I know there's the 5600WS, but are the Record spools compatible? Also, is there any choice of colours? Thanks! PS These are just the reels I'll be using for closer range/lighter lures, I'll still have others with full capacity spools
