  1. I own Daiwa, shimano and Abu-Garcia casting reels, and mostly Shimano spinning reels. I just picked up a Daiwa Sol 2500 spinning reel that I haven't had a chance to tryout yet. Hopefully tonight if we don't get the thunderstorm they are predicting. I really like the Daiwa reels, but in fairness to Shimano I have 3 TD-Z and a Steez casting reels, and my Shimano reels are mostly Curados and a couple of Calcutta CT-100s. What I mean is the Daiwa reels cost considerably more than my Shimanos which are nice, just not top of the line.
  2. You should close the bail manually anyway
  3. I grew up fishing shorter rods. I prefer 6' or 6'-6". I have some 7'ers, but unless I'm C-rigging or want extra casting distance for some reason, I rarely use them. My 7' crankbait rod sure can toss a lipless crank a long distance though!
  4. More than I really need, not as many as I want!
  5. 12 casting 12 spinning 1 flyrod
  6. Loomis spinnerbait specific rods are rated XF if that tells you anything. I like a fast taper rated for 10 - 17 lb line and 1/4 - 3/4 oz lures..MH or Med, depending on what the mfr calls it. Oh yeah, I prefer 6' but occasionally will use a 6'-6" rod.
  7. Personally I would look closely at the SJR782 in GLX
  8. What Redsyn said, plus it has enough backbone to fish light worms and grubs.
  9. For those techniques you would be better served with baitcasting gear. Personally, I limit my spinning to light lines and finesse techiques. But, if you want to use heavier spinning gear, It would be hard to argue with the SJ843 that Roadwarrior suggested.
  10. owning both what? if you mean both the MB783 and the MB844 they are totally different in my opinion. The 782 does lots of things well, but the 844 would be better for Crigs, jigging and frogging in my opinion.
  11. I have the CBR783 and you are right, it works well with smaller cranks like the wiggle warts. I also like it for shallow cranks like the Baby 1- and for topwaters like Tiny Torpedos.
  12. Steez 103HA on a Loomis CR722 GLX..around $700 or more, cannot remember exactly.
  13. Probably my GLX CR722 & my Daiwa Steez. Actually, whichever combo I'm using at the time.
  14. ES60MF, that is a 6' medium power fast action.
  15. The rod you described is the IMX MBR783. 6'-6" rated for 1/4 - 3/4 oz lures. I personally wouldn't consider the 844 a good all around rod, but to each their own.
  16. Depending on the circumstances, For hard jerkbaits; I use either a 6' MF Loomis casting rod CR722, or a Loomis SJR722 spinning rod . For soft jerkbaits (senkos) I usually use a 6" MF St. Croix spinning rod: ES60MF I prefer 6' rods for this. Occasionally I'll use a 6'-6" casting rod such as a Loomis MBR782 if I want to cast for more distance. I seldom use 7' rods.
  17. I also have this rod in IMX. I use it for light wormin', shallow running crankbaits, stickbaits, jerkbaits.
  18. I almost always use spinning gear to fish the balsa floaters and Shad Raps. With spinning you don't have to be concerned as much with wind direction, etc. I enjoy using spinning gear as much as casting gear, so it's not an issue for me.
  19. I reread my post where I wondered how an unbiased person could compare the GLX and IMX rods and not see much difference. It sounds like a flame, but I really didn't mean it like that. It's just to me, there is such a big difference between the two in regards to responsiveness, weight and balance. If you truly cannot tell much if any difference it's really fine by me, I just wonder how you are making the comparisons.
  20. I might get flamed for theis , but I think their is a huge difference between the IMX and the GLX. There is nothing subtle about it in my opinion. Subtle might be a word I would use to describe the difference in the GLX and the St. Croix Legend Elite, but both of these rods far exceed the IMX in terms of sensitivity, weight and balance. I don't see how an unbiased person could possibly not tell a difference. I almost think someone must be trying to convince themselves there is no difference and believing themselves. There is an old saying that IMX is the rod that put Loomis on the map, and it is a nice rod compared Avids and GL3's, but it is not on the level of a Legend Elite or a GLX.
  21. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1141187546 This should help.
  22. What lure weights is your rod rated for? Most MH rods are rated for weights ranging from 1/4" -3/4 oz. Rapala minnows are not only light weight, but terribly wind resistant. I usually use spinning tackle when fishing them. However, a 7" minnow seems like it might weigh enough. Is it a size 18 Rapala?
  23. Nice setups, the MBR784 and the MH avid seem like they would be very close in action and power. What spinning rod did he get in GLX? The SJR722?
