  1. I merely asked this question becuase all the Tracker dealers/websites say no haggle pricing. And the post I referred to mentioned nothing about haggling or a Tracker dealer.
  2. are you dead set on a new boat? I am not dead set on a new boat, however I have had a hard time finding a used aluminum boat with a 25 hp on it. I don't want anything to old either, so it kind of narrows my search down.
  3. As the title states....will a Tracker dealer negotiate? I have priced a Pro 16 and Pro Team 170 TX at my local BPS and then got on the internet and found the PT 170 for nearly $1000 less about 6 hours away. Their site says no haggle pricing. The Pro 16 with a 25 ELPT runs a tad over $9,000 with the PT 170 running a bit over $12,000 with a 25 ELPT at BPS.
  4. I don't have a Scum Popper but might pick one up to try out since I'm sure the price is a little lower than the Spro's. The Spro Popper seemed to skip for me just fine under hanging tree limbs and into tight holes of fallen trees in the lake.
  5. I just started fishing frogs this year. I bought a couple packs of Yum's buzzfrogs and had moderate success with them. Getting hits wasn't the problem, it was getting those fish hooked. So I went out the other night with 3 new baits. A yellow Scum Frog, a Natural Color Bronzeye Jr., and a Leopard Bronzeye Popper. (I had fished the Jr. twice before). I went in this order...Jr, Popper, Scum. My first cast with the Jr. was a missed hit that I then caught a 1 pounder on a worm thrown right at it. A few casts later I landed my first frog fish of the afternoon and my only with the Jr. for the night as not another fish offered at it. On came the popper which I was really excited to try. Frist cast, and first fish with the bait: A solid 2#. Over the next 2 hours I threw this bait and caught 14 bass ranging from 1-3#. At one point I threw into a spot and caught 4 fish in 4 casts and at another point I had a bass hit it 3 times while retrieving before he finally ate it. The Scum Frog didn't get much time but I was able to get 1 small one off of it in the 30 minutes or so that I had it on. I will definantly be throwing a few more Bronzeye Poppers in my arsenal the next time I see them on the shelf.
  6. Bronzeye popper frog in leopard color (or any variation of a frog bait) and a wrom T-Rigged to throw at missed blowups.
  7. I fish a pond close to my house where me and a friend have each pulled a 9 pounder out of. Both were caught on a T-Rig with a 1/16 oz. Red Shad 7.5 inch worm. So I would have to say that is my pick.
  8. Me and my best friend have strayed away from our roots of catfishing and became more interested in bass fishing over the last year. He recently just bought a bass boat and I plan on buying on in the next year. Over the last few weeks we have been talking about joining up with a small local tournament schedule. It looks like this year when all teams would show up they had 11, 2 man teams. It's not a big money thing just something to do for fun with about 8 tournaments stretching from March-October. What type of things do we need to know before getting into this. We have only fished a handful of lakes that they were on this year, so getting to know new water is going to be one obstacle.
  9. I just bought the Shimano Citica the other day off of Ebay for $100. It usually runs about $120. One word for it.....sweet.
  10. I have both a President and a Sahara and when I go to buy another spinning reel....I am no doubt grabbing another President. To me this reel is so smooth and durable. I have fished mine very hard for over 2 years now and it still works like a dream.
  11. I have the most luke with my Rat L Traps or Strike King's Red Eye for lipless cranks. From shallow to deep divers, you will see me with a Strike King Sexy Shad on.
  12. I am looking for a website somewhere that is good for used boat listings. Here is basically what I am looking for: At least 16 ft. 25 hp motor and depending on condition 12-13 years old or newer. I have looked at some new Bass Trackers (Pro 16 and PT 170TX), but thought I may get a pretty decent boat for half the price if I shop around. Thanks
  13. You are headed out to your local lake tomorrow. You have 1 hour to catch the most fish you can. What lure are you using? How are you presenting it? Where on the lake are you fishing(brushy points, stumps, grass, etc)? Please give a brief description of the water you are on. I am wondering this because I seem to have trouble getting on fish when I get on the water. It always seems like my plan for the day is changed right after I get out there if I fail to get a bite quickly. For me...my favorite lake is still about a 3 hour drive away but I am going to hit it right at dawn and find the first cove I can to see if there are shad popping the surface. If they are I am throwing a zara spook in the middle of them and also have a swimming senko on backup. If I don't see any shad then there is one little brushy point that runs from about 5 to 30 feet and I am throwing a C-Rig with a Red Shad 7.5inch worm.
  14. If you buy a baitcaster.....stay at it and practice hard with it. I bought my first probably 5 years ago for a catfish pole. I was "decent" with it, but I was able to make better casts with my spinning outfits. Last year I bought my first bass setup with a baitcaster on it. I went to the bag yard one afternoon with a 1/2 oz weight on it and started fixing backlash after backlash. I now head out on the water and my baitcaster setup is my favorite. As I have mentioned in another thread, my next bass rod and reel is going to have a baitcaster on it. Best of luck to you.
  15. Yea that was one of the first places I checked. I also found a Citica for just under $90 plus shipping on some discount site. That may be the better option for me and put on a mid level casting rod.
  16. Last night I had a blow up on one of the buzzfrogs and the fish wasn't there so I counted to 5 before reeling and as soon as the bait moved the fish was back, but still just another quick snap at it.
  17. I've decieded that a new setup can wait until next year. I hear nothing but great things about the Curado. Is it really worth it to throw that much more money into it? It wouldn't be difficult to put aside a few bucks here and there to have it for fishing the powerplant lakes this winter.
  18. I am a newbie to frog fishing. I bought some Yum buzzfrogs and took out to a farm pond with some very big bass in it. The first 3 nights I fished it I was able to get plenty of blowups on it, but only caught 1 fish each night with it. I had more bites on these frogs than any other lure I had ever used here. I went to looking around at Bass Pro the other night and saw the Spro frogs and thought I would be able to get a better hookup with them. However last night was the first night I used it and only had one blowup on it and no fish. I threw on one of the buzzfrogs and started getting hits but no fish. Any advice as to what I could do to help in actually getting these fish hooked. Also, I tried the Bronzeye out by walking and popping it across and letting it sit and no such luck??????
  19. The first one I lost at the boat was last year when I was in a friendly competition with 2 of my friends. I was controlling the boat and pulled up to a point. They each caught fish right off the bat and then we went dry for a bit. I got a good bite and got her hooked...right to the surface and while I was waiting for the net she threw it. It would of been a keeper on that lake (18 inch+). I answered with a 5.2# about an hour later on the same point. This time the net got to me in time
  20. I am in the market for a nice baitcaster for cranksbaits and such. A little on the cheap side. Cabelas suggested an Abu Garcia Black Max or a Pflueger Echelon. I also checked out a Diawa Exceler combo last night. I'm not wanting to spend to much over $115 on the whole setup of rod and reel.
  21. I am in the market for an aluminum bass boat with a 25 horse motor on it. Right now my #1 choice is the BassTracker Pro Team 170 TX with a 25 Mercury, however I have also looked at the Pro 16 with a 25 Merc. I'm not wanting to spend over $12,000 and want at least a 16 foot boat. What other brands/models are available in this price range that some of you would suggest?
  22. If you could only use 5 lures for the rest of your life what would they be and in what color would you have them? It doesn't matter soft or hard plastic, topwater, or wire bait, just 5 lures that would have to be put in your tackle box.
  23. We were fishing Newton Lake for 2 days. A very nice lake. I bought a boat a 2 years ago, but have always used it for catfishing on the the Illinois River. Here lately though I have caught bass fishing fever and can't seem to get enough of it.
  24. Was wondering if anyone has tried these out and if they are worth the time and money? Have seen the commercials for them for years now but have never tried them out. Always been kind of hesitant to jump on something that is said to be a "sure thing"
  25. Well somewhat new to it anyways. Have always bass fished alot in local farm ponds where you could catch alot of fish on a regular plastic worm. Went on my first actual bass outing to a larger lake this weekend and had moderate success. Caught some nice fish on carolina rigged worms and some on zara spooks in the middle of shad schools. However, all the boats around us seemed to be nailing them all weekend long. I'm sure this question gets asked alot on here but where do I begin? My tackle box consits of Rat-L-Traps, swimbaits, and several variations of plastic worms, tubes, and lizards.
