I don't think for a second that the kids were taken JUST because of their names. I think, as others have mentioned, that it was just what got the ball rolling for other things to be discovered. Reading this story reminded me about a kid I grew up with. His given name was Lucifer Scott _____ (I can't recall his last name right now, but it's not important anyway...). His Mom was kind of odd, but he told me once that she liked the meaning of the name, which is "Bringer of Light". By the time we were teens, he started going by Scott. I always called him Luci. or Luc. (pronounced "loose") though. I always thought that would be a bad one to be saddled with, but this is even worse.

Have you checked the individual disks that you're having problems with for scratches? I know you said they were just received by your son, but this is the first place I would start. If they are scratched, and the scratches are in a circular pattern, you possibly could have a bad unit that is damaging them as it spins them. Usually Nintendo consoles are built pretty well, but there are always exceptions.
