  1. does anyone know the largest bass ever caught in a b.a.s.s tournament?
  2. was it in a tournament?
  3. those prices are awesome! i think i'll order some, if they're as good as you say they are, i'll switch to them for good. good selection of colors. i thik i will order a 50 pack.
  4. i got a scum frog a couple weeks ago and really used it today for the first time. man, they loved it! it took me a few fish to get the hook set down. you really have to let them run with it before setting the hook. i only caught one with it, but i missed 3 or 4 more. the last one got me hung up in some logs that i couldn't get to and i had to break it off. i'll get a few more next time i go to bass pro. seems like it's going to be a winner where i fish.
  5. it's good to cut the fillets up into smaller pieces. they seem to taste better than whole bass fillets.
  6. the last bass i took home and cooked, i soaked them in salt water over night and rinsed them off and put them in butter milk for about 30 minutes before i cooked them. i used unkle bucks spicy batter and used beer for the liquid. it was really good.
  7. www.basspro.com or www.cabelas.com
  8. i got mine at bass pro shops.
  9. i got some 7 inch yum dingers the other day, thinking it would be good for big bass. who uses the larger senkos? do you catch bigger bass on them? i got them in baby bass color. i know roadwarrior uses big senkos. do you fish them any different than any other senko?
  10. i feel that way about senkos, i don't think i've ever caught a fish retrieving them. i always catch them on the initial fall.
  11. it stinks like a pig pen! come to think of it i've done it quite a bit. last year i caught a channel cat on a crank bait and i couldn't get the trebble hooks out of that tough loose skin. i had to cancel that trip to get pliers. that's the bad part of fishing off the bank. nothing is worse than being able to see your bait and having to break it off and just stare at it. the only lures i've lost to brush this year in a boat are plastic worm rigs that weren't worth the troule of plowing into cover to get them.
  12. roland martin will say or do anything to sell you something from his sponsers. i don't have much respect for him. he's a great angler and that's more of a character flaw than anything. he has gotten behind some bad products. and the guide thing in tournaments is even worse.
  13. i walked through the woods to a pond about an hour before dark with 1 buzzbait today. about my 3rd cast i missed a good bass. about my 6th cast i clipped a limb behind me and my only buzzbait went into the water. the bass were biting and my only lure was at the bottom of this muddy pond! this pond was pretty bad, deep mud, an inch of rotten limbs on the bottom, alot of moss. i had rubber boots on and i waded out to where the water was about a half inch from the top of my boots and started feeling on the bottom. i sifted through for a good while, then got a stick and started raking for another 10 minutes or so. i finally got my rod and raked for about another 10 minutes. i was just about to give up when i snagged it. but by that time there was mud everywhere. i casted for about 20 minutes without a bite. lesson learned today? never go fishing with just 1 lure!
  14. i feel more confident than i have in years. through my late teens i quit fishing for several years. i got fed up with fishing from the bank. i would go maybe once or twice a year. 3 or 4 years ago i got a boat and started fishing alot. i feel pretty confident in my ability to catch bass. but where i used to consider a pig and jig as my bread and butter bait, i have found myself the past few times i've fished one not feeling so hot about using it. i just can't picture it working. even though it has accounted for a huge number of my fish over the years. i have caught fish on them this year. worms are kind of going that direction too. i guess this year i really got alot of confidence in crankbaits and my confidence in spinnerbaits is growing. is this normal? i guess this year i'm stuck at this one lake i've been fishing. it's really mossy, so it's hard to jig and worm fish.
  15. that's the one i have. i can't find it and i couldn't remember the name of it. good dvd. very informative.
  16. i like eating them. bass filets are good. i release probably 95% of the bass i catch every year. i take a couple home when i feel like eating fish though.
  17. what about cutting the hook off in the bend as close as you can get it? how would you think that would effect the survival of the fish?
  18. i wonder how many times the record has actually been broken? from talking to my grandfather about fishing, i gather that if he had caught a fish that big, it would have never been reported or anything. he would have simply taken it home and eaten it. most old timers in those days would do the same thing. i doubt many of the records are actually the biggest fish caught.
  19. i still think a bass that big has got to be pretty close to the end of its rope anyway.
  20. say you catch it on a worm, you will get money from the manufacturer of the worm, the hook, the line, the rod, the reel and whatever else you use! can you imagine the surge of sales the company is going to get for the product that caught the world record largemouth bass? you will be a very rich man, trust me.
  21. you would make millions in endorsments! you would be in every out doors magazine, i'm sure you would get to fish with the pros on tv. it would be like winning the lottery.
  22. i wouldn't mind releasing it if i could get it verified on the lake, but where i fish that is not going to be an option. and you also have to remember that a bass is losing weight the whole time you have it, even in a live well. i'm talking about these people that release record bass without getting them certified. i need the money and prizes too bad to think about doing that!
  23. would any of you guys release a record bass? i don't know where to find the stories now, but i've seen a couple of pictures of bass in california that supposedly break the world record, but they released the fish without getting it verified. are you guys that adiment about catch and release? for me the answer is not no but h*** no! that's a million dollar fish! on top of that, a bass that big can't have much time left. i wouldn't be at all surprised if the fight ended up killing it.
  24. what i was meaning by this topic was not really them being conditioned to lures. i mean when they see countless lures come by them will they shut down? does mr bass say "well i've seen this guy throwing all kinds of stuff at me so i'm not biting ANYTHING"?
  25. a buzzbait works well in this situation, or a rattle trap.
