I just picked up a 7ft MLF st. croix with a pflueger supreme reel recently and before that I was fishing a 6'6" Bionix MF with a Sonora 2500. Both have been great hitting the smallies but the new setup definitely feels better.

I literally went and bought all of these lures, fished all of them for about 30-45 minutes each with no luck. Went back to the flukes and started catching them on the retrieve and messing around above the rapids. Ive always fished them weightless t-rigged, any recommendations on fishing them with weights? Thanks guys

With the flukes I wasnt using any weight, I actually wasnt sure if it would work right rigging it with an 1/8th or 1/4 oz. bullet like I rig crawdads/lizards. I tried a little og floater and a small x-rap yesterday but it seemed like the current was just ripping it downstream and it wasnt really swimming, just being pulled sideways through fast water. I also tried a zara puppy but that was short lived as I got stuck on the only log in the area. Think a small spinner might work? Ive never used a buzz bait or a torpedo but I was thinking of picking one up today. I know the water is shallow there, probably 6-8 feet in the deepest spot. Sorry for the long responses guys and thanks for the suggestions so far.

So Ive been using flukes to fish for smallies recently and have had some really great results. Most of this has been on a slowish moving river, the Appomattox. Now Im fishing in fast moving water on the James, specifically right after whats probably a class II rapid. Problem is that my fluke is obviously just flying downstream. Ive still been hitting fish, but its usually on the retrieve and its a crap shoot at best. I tried fishing a 3.5" gitzit tube yesterday but with the lightweight jig head it just went flying downstream as well. My question boils down to whether I should be putting a bullet weight ahead of my fluke, fish the fluke differently, use a heavier jig head on the tube, or simply switch baits to something different. Any advice or help would be appreciated, I know theres some fatties in the rapids.

If you have the extra aquariums, why not raise some crawfish, crickets, etc. for bait? I dont think it would be possible to have a bass live in an aquarium

Blasphemy! I fish mostly small rivers and Ive been getting alot of smallmouth on flukes and craws. Mostly watermelon seed or some variation but I picked up a package of Junebug flukes and theyve been working great also.

I would recommend going soon, I was at the short pump store yesterday and tons of stuff was being sold at great deals. I was looking for a reel and got a Pflueger supreme for 59.99, well 49.99 after the coupon, plus 10% because it was the display from the case.

It has to be the line. I just purchased the same reel, put some 8lb on it, and it casts wonderfully. I am using a ML/F 7' rod though.

The price has dropped, very little I might add, by ten dollars at Dicks currently to 69.99. The supreme is discounted to 80 but its not the 8035, its the smaller one. Im about to leave now and head to both dicks and gander to check things out. Then Im going with the girlfriend to a pond I found out about from this website today.

So you dont think the extra 90 dollars is worth it on the Stradic?

Hey all, Im going to be buying a new spinning reel today and was wondering what suggestions you may have. Unfortunately there is no BPS near me yet so I have Dicks and Gander Mountain to search. Im hoping to spend around 100 bucks and Ive been looking at a Pflueger Supreme 8035mg and the Shimano Symetre 2500. I mostly fish bass in creeks and a good deal of smallmouth fishing on the river. So if anyone has any suggestions in around that price range, I would be receptive. I was also looking at a Stradic or Saros but wasnt sure if the extra money was really worth it. Thanks for any help you can give.
