If using mono, 10lb up to 15lb will work fine. You can also use 20lb braid with a 12lb mono leader. No loop knot or snap is needed as you tie directly to the split ring.
  6. Absolutely! I've been using the uni-knot as my primary knot since I learned in the mid-80's. It's a universal knot that can be used on all types of lines, and is incredibly strong and durable.
  7. First off, welcome back! I noticed you started posting again a few days ago, and it brought a smile to my face. Second - Congratulations!! That's a HUGE deal! Don't downplay it. You earned it, and deserve it. You made the extra effort, and your colleagues recognized it. That speaks volumes!
  8. Oddly enough, I am also having French dip.
  9. Pictures or it didn't happen!
  10. Perhaps of interest...
  11. Guys - we contacted Favorite and asked them to respond. Please understand, the Classic JUST happened and they're not even back yet. They don't have a huge staff that can respond every forum and social media post on the Internet. The last thread was nothing more than rumors and speculation. I don't think that's helpful for anyone. But if you do, then let's start a thread about you, make up stuff based upon uneducated observation, and then not give you a chance to respond. Would that be fair? Didn't think so. We're done.
  12. Here's the proper way to spool braid onto your reel. It should alleviate any issues of slippage.
  13. The following was sent to me from Don Barone (DB), who founded Tackle The Storm Foundation. When all is said and done in this sport I hope the record books show that the man standing next to me, Skeet Reese was not only a champion at the highest level in his sport...but was also a champion humanitarian...and to me that's the most important thing and why I can honesty say that I love the dude...this Skeet Reese and his family Kim Reese. Sneak preview here, bigger story coming soon, but Skeet has put together a raffle that will benefit Tackle The Storm Foundation a bunch, and without Skeet's help way back there would be no Tackle The Storm. In the 6 years of Tackle The Storm, Skeet the co-founder with me and major FUNDER of the foundation, has managed to put over 1,400 children back on the water fishing after storms in their lives have taken that joy away. To a child a simple fishing rod and reel is a magic wand, every cast a treasure hunt and so Skeet is launching a nationwide raffle of stuff valued at over $10,000. Here's what the winner will get: Mercury Marine Tempest Prop & Quicksilver Oil General Tire – Set of 4 General Tires of your choice. Power-Pole gift card for a Power-Pole 2 Lowrance HDS 9 Gen 3 Touch Lucky Craft Lure pack 6 Wright & McGill Skeet Reese Rods & 6 Victory Reels Dick’s Sporting Goods Gift Card Trokar hooks pack Huk Gear Next Level rain suit 2 inflatable life jackets from Ranger Boats Berkley tackle pack Autographed Skeet Reese Tournament jersey Tickets are $10 and will benefit Tackle The Storm Foundation with the possibility of a MATCHING donation that will double our ability to put the magic wands of childhood back into a youngsters hands. For more information click this link, more info will be available soon. Thank You...and to Skeet, Kim and the girls...love ya. http://skeetreeseinc.com/?page_id=5172
  14. Got a sneek peak look at this a few days ago at the Classic. There's some cool unique things this bait does that you can't do with anything else.
  15. I used to have the exact same unit on the bow of my boat. There is no GPS option for it. It's strictly a depthfinder.
  16. I was talking to Aaron Martens after the Classic, and he said the first wave had already spawned, and he was expecting the 2nd wave to be positioned near spawning areas in deeper water, waiting to move in. However it was clear in day two they were already moving in shallow. He said he saw them moving in packs into the creeks - something that he discovered too late.
  17. Hey when somehow you find yourself in a small meeting at Academy Sports HQ and the CEO stops in to talk to you; when Big-O treats you like family and wants to take you fishing; when KVD sees you, smiles and addresses you by name like an old friend; when Rick Clunn walks by you at a bar, says "hi" and offers a handshake to you and your wife; when Hank Parker sees you from across the aisle at the Classic show floor, smiles and walks over to you with an extended hand while saying, "Hey Buddy!", and his wife Martha carries on a long conversation with your wife like old friends; when Mark Zona is clearly darting from one location to another, but stops to say hi, hug your wife, and try to catch up in the few short minutes he has; or when Bill Dance stops when he sees you just to ask how you've been.... ya...living the dream buddy! I can't complain about the long hours and hard work!
  18. Livin' the dream my man! Living the dream!
  19. What to know before you fork out your hard-earned cash! Let me know your thoughts.
  20. Happy to answer questions about Kastking. I had dinner with them just last week, and pointedly asked, "So tell me the story of your company". I don't profess to be a gear guru, so I won't get into the details of their components because I'm certain to mess that up. But I do understand business. They are a direct-to-consumer businesses with little overhead. For example, they only sell on Amazon and Ebay (bypassing distributors and chain-store markups), and buy direct components as well, which greatly reduces costs. They also have just 70 employees, rather than hundreds like the "big brands", which reduces overhead. They do indeed enlist the help of YouTubers to market their products - a trend many companies are following now due to low expense. The total cost savings of these efforts are significant, and are passed on to consumers. However the quality of the gear is not compromised. Yes, they've discussed raising their prices to match similar quality competition that's listed at 300%-400% higher prices. But they want to focus on enabling people to get into the sport without the barrier of expensive gear. btw, it isn't just KastKing that's heading in this direction. Even the big boys, like Academy, are finding creative ways to cut costs while maintaining quality. The goal is to make fishing more affordable for everyone. Hope that helps!
  21. I honestly don't think a sponsor even saw that thread. I removed it because the original OP had already professed his affinity towards a different brand, and was starting that one mainly just to be negative towards another. And then the rumors and speculations that followed were simply gossip. That was the final straw. If you've been here awhile, you've undoubtedly noticed we prefer to keep a positive vibe around here. So that thread didn't belong.
  22. A little late in responding, but yes, it's him. Got it straight from him, face-to-face.
  23. This is the very first video showing the brand new RageTail 2 3/4" Swimmer. Big-O gave us an exclusive look. Check this out!
