  1. Went fishing today and had a little luck, caught 4 small ones . On one cast, I was dragging my SENKO along the bottom and felt a "TAP-TAP",so I stopped and waited. After a few seconds of no action I began my slow dragging retrieve again and then suddely.......WHAM!!!. I set the hook and began a good fight,As the fish got closer to the bank I noticed a yellow color . To my surprise, what I caught was a fat ,pot bellied yellow catfish,or "mudcat" as ive heard em called. This was certainly a first for me. So now I know theres more than just bass and sunfish in this pond ,the fishing could get to be a little more exciting, when im tired of cranking for bass,I can lob a hook full of crawlers out and sit on the bank and wait for the bite to come. ;D
  2. Ive read several posts about Bass fishing at night and almost all the time the color was black no matter what kind of bait. Wouldnt it be hard for the fish to see black at night? Or is there some special reason for using dark colors at night?
  3. Hello all ,hope someone can give me some advice. I live in southeastern Arizona(Cochise County) and have for many years. When I was young, before I did a stint in the Army,I used to fish on any of the 8 or so stocked ponds that were on the nearby(5 minute drive) Army post,Fort Huachuca. After my sevice to our country, I returned to my home town and wanted to go hit those ponds again and to my dismay have found them all dried up!!! I am a 100% disabled veteran and like to fish to relax and enjoy myself. I was told that Arizona legislature thinks the military post uses too much water by keeping those ponds active and thus has passed a bill or something to get the ponds shut down. Anyone who has been in the military knows what MWR is. For those that dont it short for MORALE,WELFARE AND RECREATION. Wheres the MWR for the soldiers on this post? Im so aggravated as I absolutely LOVE to fish and now I dont have anywhere close to take my kids to show them this wonderful outdoor activity where I have so many fond memories as I grew up. These ponds are where my dad introduced me to fishing and I would absolutely drive my dad nuts ,begging him to take me fishing. The closest place to fish anymore is more than an hour away and always really packed with people. Any suggestions or anything to help ease my absolute anger and aggravation?
  4. I have been noticing some bluegill in the shallows lately occasionally "Yawning",I saw a Bass do it to once before, any Idea why they might do this and whats the significance of it?
  5. I dont know if its because the pond I have been fishing lately doesnt get much pressure or what ,but when I first started using SENKO style baits(this weekend). The fish were all sitting on the surface sunning themselves and they were slamming the baits as soon as it hit the water. A few times even leaping out of the water right as it hit the water. Very aggressive. Im very happy with these baits. In two days I caught 15 Bass, 2 of them being 2.5--3 pounds, about 20 inches long. All the others were real small. I missed alot of hooksets I think mainly because the fish were only like 8-10 inches long. But as long as I let those small ones go,Im sure they will grow nicely. Just my 2 cents worth and my experience thusfar
  6. On the lake I fish I noticed alot of the shoreline is fouled up with beds of milfoil, making it very difficult to fish from shore without getting hung up in the stuff. So I purchased a float tube to try to get on the other side of this stuff and get into deeper water,I now have access to the entire lake The water is green in colr but pretty clear,I can see the fins on my float easily.Theres not much other cover or structure, obstacles in the water, but one area of the lake is visibly very deep,a rock cliff goes straight into the water and the other bank appears to have lots of medium to large size rocks going into the water and the water gets very dark in that area.Im trying to figure out strategy, what to throw, when and where. I have been most successful with plastic worms and have thrown a deep diving BOMBER crankbait with not one strike as if there werent even any fish in the lake. The plastic worms are fun but would like to learn how to use different baits so I can most likely catch em on anything I throw and build my confidence. I usually put the lures down and just throw live night crawlers, but lures are so much more fun, although when I was fishing for bluegill on a ultralight slip bobber set up I "ACCIDENTALLY" hooked into my largest bass to date,a 5 lb 9 oz'er I got that fish and man now I cant stay off the water!! Thanks in advance
  7. I have been reading all about Senkos and wanted to try them. Here where I live They arent available, but I was able to find a 5"KINAMI FLASH made by KINAMI BAITS which is part of YAMAMOTO ENTERPRISES. They look just like the SENKOS,do they work as well? Thanks in advance
