  1. I fish my saltwater bucktails for bass, usually I'll use a flats bucktail jig 1/4 oz. I fish bass with those jigs exactly the way I fish for saltwater fish, they work quite well.

    What?
  3. There is a term for that...sport********
  4. Regardless of how much money is earned from whatever sources the issue is whether fishing is a sport, I still say no. I've read the arguments pro and con and I'm not convinced, but if someone believes that fishing is a sport they are entitled to their belief. What I believe doesn't diminish my passion at all, I fish 7 days a week year round rain or shine.
  5. $100 and under Shimano makes a nice reel, drags are fairly good and in freshwater durability is not a major issue. IMO Shimano does have the best line management system. If I were a Shimano buyer I'd take a good look at the symetre, I don't find a graphite frame being much of a negative.
  6. Not posting results, don't want to jinx myself, but I'm not complaining.

Yes New Orleans played a major role during that time period. By Garrison's claims depicted by Oliver Stone (I loved that movie) there was a relationship between anti and pro Castro forces and the assassination. That theory has been raked over coals, it makes sense but it is a movie. Contrary I don't believe the Warren Report and I don't think Oswald acted alone, those 3 shots in rapid succession and the angle of the magic bullet, makes me scratch my head wondering over that. There is someone out there that does know if still alive, I'm sure there is documented evidence telling all, we may never find out though. The powers to be will tell us what they want us to know, not everything they know. I was 18 at the time in my 1 st year at Univ of Mich, I remember the reaction all over campus like it was yesterday.
  9. The colder months are the only times I fish for bass, but that's 70 here, I don't fish for them in the summer. Right now is actually a very good time to fish here, we have had 8-10 surf this past week, that means snook all over the place. Afternoons I go bass fishing which has been pretty decent.
  10. My 35 was used for nearly 2 years catching snook and other inshore species. The last few years it's been on a 7' med 8/17 rod for canal bass, reel performs as new with just a drop of oil twice a year. I have the 30 size on 6'6 ml performs well for pond fishing, both reels have been winners.
  11. Yep. Traditional rule of thumb, dark lure for dark water and light lure for lighter colored water.
  12. Espn's use of the term salaries is inaccurate, winnings from prize funds are not salaries. Salaries are a guaranteed wage, in sports today they all have contracts. I would doubt many people would dispute tennis being a sport, there are many players both male and female that surpass 900k a year in prize fund winnings. Factor in a few other sports and competitive events like golf or race car driving and it's hard to believe that KVD is in the 20 th position.
  13. I'm not a worm fisherman, in fact I don't like using them. But every once in a while for a change pace ya gotta do something different, the last 2 days I was using senkos. Not that color made a difference but it was hard to keep the fish off the hook, fishing in it's most simplest and productive way. The biggest of the day (and most fun) was caught on an Excaliber jerkbait, between 6 and 8#.
  14. About an hour ago I was on Comcast's site and they have a section devoted to wireless gateway problems, the gyst was pretty much reconfiguring the gateway path.
  15. It just takes some people longer to catch on.........................hahaha.
  16. Me too. I never line watch, 60 years of fishing has taught me a few things. I don't often drags worms and jigs anymore but I did yesterday. Fishing senkos with braid in 20 mph winds was enormously productive, there is no loop in the line even without using weight, I like to let them fall on their own, I just keep my rod low to the water and the line is not in the air. Did I miss a bite, frankly I doubt it.
  17. Do your own experimenting on the waters you fish with the kind of baits you like to use. My rod may or may not have any bearing on what's best for some one else. My advice is to learn on your own, in the long run you'll be better off.
  18. Don't be confused with heavy line and strong line like braid. My own personal choice for a 4000 is to use 10lb (I don't even like 12#) mono or copoly as my heaviest, and not to overspool. I prefer braid and on a reel that size I'd be using 15 or 20# as a max., now we are talking a strong line but not very heavy. IMO braid manages better, much less line twist and no need to constantly troll your line out after each outing, which I do when I use mono, and conditioner isn't needed. Additionally using braid on that size reel opens up other species, line capacity is not an issue. 20# braid will easily handle 50 pound fish in open water, in heavy vegetation there should be no problem with an 8 pound fish with a bunch of seaweed on it's back. If a problem is encountered I'd be addressing my knots and not the line. Braid is a big equalizer, sensitivity and strength to the point in making us believe we are superhuman fishermen, lol, bottom line use what you like the best.
  19. Any fish hitting a moving bait comes to get it, it's not a passive inhale like with a bottom bait. Not too many strikes that shouldn't be felt with any kind of rod and line.
  20. I've been having a lot of issues with my wireless network. Had no problems for several years, worked beautifully with my Linsky. A couple of months ago I start getting kicked off line and constantly need to reboot, call Comcast and they tell me I need to have their new upgraded modem with it's own built in router. Get my new modem and can't connect a wireless network, servicemen comes out. The tech tells me the new routers don't work well and connects my old linsky to it, everything is fine for a while. I was charged $60 for that service call, had it taken off my bill but that seems to be their new policy. My remote computer is getting knocked off line again and I have to keep hitting " apply this fix", then everything is ok until I close the lid on the laptop, then have to hit the fix next time I want to use it. Reading on line and talking to Comcast (which does not resolve the problem) the new router overrides my linsky, if I remove the linsky and use just the new router I can't connect at all. The isp has to be manually reconfigured, just checking where it says to "obtain an ips automatically" isn't working, the dns server address has to be changed as well. Sound confusing, well it isn't if you are a tech, but even having a bit of knowledge in this area is not serving me well. Putting in the wrong numbers or making a bad click someplace can wind up being a nightmare, which I have experienced spending 4 hours with linsky live chat and still didn't work. If you do not know what an ips is or how to change it or where to change it in your computer, or go on line to reconfigure, don't try it.......Get an tech over there or call customer support.
  21. I've caught marlin, amberjack, sailfish and other bigger fish as senior citizen and I top the scale at a hefty 135#, my best physical days are in the past. Strength and endurance come in handy but technique and knowhow is what gets the job done. I'm not even close to being any kind of an athlete. Landing most fish isn't all that difficult. One I know for sure, that's me. Not always (do that as well) in a boat but I fish on average 4 hours of saltwater and a couple of fresh water better than 340 days a year and I'm no athlete, no weenie either..............lol.
  22. I don't believe bass fishing is a sport and no more difficult than many other occupations. A prime example is Rhino's lobstering, I'm sure a hundred more jobs could easily be listed that people do 5 and 6 days a week. I duly understand the passion involved but can't bring my self to think of it as a sport. For me bass fishing is fun, enjoyable and I like it, but it's far from the most difficult kind of fishing I do. IMO a tournament fisherman, whether it's bass, redfish, kingfish is involved in a competitive event not a sport. Francho is right about being in shape, even an out of shape person is going labor some walking a couple of miles at brisk pace, I'm not talking power walking. I boat fished 40 years in Lake St. Clair, been fishing the last 10 years about 340 days a year both boat and shore at ocean freshwater as well, I don't get these sore muscles that I read about all the time and I'm 68. Am I an athlete................haha, not even close.
  23. Key to a good burger lean to fat ratio, 70/30 being excellent. Hamburgers made from wagyu beef are pretty darn good.
  24. I consistently over load my rods with zero ill effects, max lure of 3/4-1 oz no problem, 1 oz max-1.5 oz no problem, for example. On the other side of the spectrum I throw lighter than rod parameters too, when the need is only to cast 10 yds into the swash or work a sea wall, because that is zone I'm working and distance doesn't matter. Not my usual way to fish for bass, I don't see the need for it.
