From the comments in this post, I assumed this was already covered. But anyway. Abu garcia is owned by Pure Fishing(An offshoot of berkley). They own the following companies
Penn® Abu Garcia® Berkley® Shakespeare® All Star Rods® Fenwick® Johnson® Mitchell® Pflueger® Spiderwire® Stren® XTools®
From what I was reading, the ones for 100 bucks are garbage. For a 100 I think I could build one with a high quality submersible cctv camera with multiple ir leds providing I can find a used 5" tv to use as a monitor. Could probably do it even cheaper if I built my own waterproof housing for the camera.
I'm curious if anyone has tried building a camera system like an aquavu. It seems like it would be pretty straight forward. It would just be a submersible security camera hooked up to a monitor and battery. Just curious if anyone attempted this.
Even if the hook up ratio is the same, it will be worth it if they keep the frog running straight. With the tru tungsten hook I was tearing the frog up trying to rig it. They show a video on it but the way the do it to not tear up the frog, you have to retie every new frog. They aren't cheap at 5 bucks for two hooks. But when your'e using braid you really don't lose many.
Have any of you tried the new double hooks by tru tungsten or gambler for the plastic frogs? If so, what do you think about them. I bought a pack of each and tried rigging them up. I definitely think the gambler hook with the corkscrew has a lot of potential. I'm not really crazy about the tru tungsten one though so far. I haven't been able to try either of them out on the water yet though.
