  1. Yea, I bought the wife a Shakespeare spinning combo...$49 I took it out today and used it to cast a light Rapala minnow...it cast it a mile compared to my Shimano baitcaster. I may have to go out and buy me a good spinning reel now
  2. So I'm looking at buying a new baitcaster. Been to many tackle retailers...both locally and online. There are many brands to choose from...I currently own an older Daiwa and Shimano. Both reels have advantages and disadvantages. I go the local Wal Mart where they sell Shakespear and Abu Garcia baitcaster reels. The most expensive model is like $69...7 bearings, mag cast control...etc. I guess what I'm getting at, I can go out and buy a $175-200 reel, or I can get a $69 reel. I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for, however, is it really going to help me catch more fish by purchasing a high dollar reel as opposed to a <$100 reel? Thanks for your insight.....
  3. Wow! No internet? What a scary thought. Makes me wonder how we ever evolved as an informed society.
  4. Seems to me there may be insufficient data to support either argument? :-/
  5. I'm with you there man. I love to fish period! I don't pay much attention to the moon or alignment of planets, now weather conditions may be a different story. My work as a registered nurse is very stressful, fishing becomes my "quiet" place. So, if I catch a fish or two..that's great...and if not...that's good too. Great answers gentlemen... Pyle
  6. How and/or why is the moon cycle important in indicating successful fishing days? I guess I could of Googled the question, but I'm sure that the experts on this board can give me a lay answer
  7. Thanks for the reply guys. This board is a great resource, I'll no longer have to "wander" where to go to find wise counsel on the art of BASS fishing... Pyle
  8. Just wandering if you guys use the split ring on hard baits to tie your knot to, or remove the split ring and tie the knot directly to the lure? :-/
  9. Rusty, Thanks for the invite guy. I work this Thurs Frid and Sat...off Sun, then Mon Tues Wed. then off next Thurs and Friday. I got those crazy 12 hr nursing shifts. Anyways, I will try and give you a call next Wed if that's ok with you? Kevin
  10. I'm reading and hearing alot lately as to the success of the Rat L Trap lures. I have a couple of Cordell Spot lures that look very similar to the Rat L Trap type lure. Is there any difference in the two? I guess I could just go out and buy a Rat L Trap and find out for myself.
  11. Anyone here near Lake Tarpon in Pinellas County Florida? Lookin to meet a few folk in this area that fish Lake Tarpon.
  12. I've been looking at spooling my baitcaster reels with Power Pro High Vis yellow or red color. My eyesight isn't what it use to be. Should I tie on say a 18' flourocarbon leader or is it ok to just tie the lure right on to the Power Pro.. Gomer
