  1. thanks for the replies guys. that G loomis looks great, but I am not sure if I can afford that one.
  2. Ok, I am new to football jig fishing, but I love it!!! I spent my first day trying these out this past Saturday and hooked (keyword there) some good fish, but didn't land them all. I was using a Quantum Superlite Heavy Action Rod and the Powell Swim Jig rod. I had two on that were 5+.....lost them both on the head shake and caught a 3 and 2. I had another one come off that was 2 - 3 lbs. I broke my Quantum Rod on the hookset on another large bass. It was a tough day of losing fish, but I chalked it up as a day of learning. So what did I learn? I learned that I needed some good advice on fishing these football jigs. Anyways, I think my problem was my hook set and the rods. I need some some good advice on a solid football jig rod and how to properly set the hook. I just about only fish 3/4 oz jigs. I fish deep and in the current, so I want a jig that stays on the bottom. Any advice???
  3. so what's the verdict on the swim jig rod from powell? I have been thinking about getting one.
  4. I don't have the MH magnesium, I have the med. I like the medium action, I am just not sure if it will get used enough. I am wondering if I should get another action, but you say you don't like the mh action. I have a falcon 7' MH that I really like and an all star 6'6" mh that works well too.
  5. Ok guys got a question for you all. I needed another rod to add to my arsenal. I did not have a medium graphite rod, so I thought this was a good one to get to even out my arsenal. However, once I got it, I started second guessing myself. Here are the rods I have now 7'11" Medium Fiberglass Cranking Rod (bait casting) 7' 6" Heavy Action Rod (bait casting) 7'2" Spinning rod M/H 7' Medium Heavy (bait casting) 6'6" Medium Heavy (bait casting) New Rod - 7' Medium Rod (bait casting) http://www.kistlerrods.com/p/KR/c-mirco-mt-rods/McMag70MC.html So my question is, should I keep it or exchange it for a medium / heavy? What all can I fish this rod with? Smaller plastics and jigs, topwater, jerkbaits, lipless cranks? I fish plastics and jigs a lot, but I do throw everything else too. I just wanted to get some input from you all. Thanks
  6. I haven't been to Lay, but was at Mitchell a few weeks ago. Fish are hitting good. Go get you some good spots! Lots of reports here.... another site check this daily to try to get some information on lay
  7. I gotcha....I was joking around too. I love The Big G!! Great lake! I have heard there has been some poaching going on up their lately. Not a good thing. Guys catching 3 - 4 times their limit, filleting their fish in the boat (including 5, 6, and 7 pounders), packing them in a cooler, and keep doing the same thing over and over....all day long. It really is sad that some people are doing this there. I see nothing wrong with keeping fish, but this is just plain wrong the way they are doing it. I am an advocate for Catch and Release. People need to realize that this can really cause damage to a great fishery. I contacted the game warden the other day and they are really starting to crack down on these jokers. I heard they were pulling a lot of boats over to check live wells the past few weeks. Its about time!!
  8. not anymore........ :-/
  9. another site lots of updates there on guntersville. good luck at the big G!
  10. Me likey lots!!! Ok, now where did you get 'em?
  11. I like that plan. I don't have a cavitron, but I do have 3/8 buzzbaits. I hope the spots are on in the morning!
  12. Ok, that's what I will do RW. That makes me feel better. How do you think we should start in the morning? Cranks, Spinnerbaits, or topwater?
  13. So, as most of you are experiencing with me....this daunted high pressure system. What are some of your strategies on fishing for largemouth and spotted bass in these systems? I know the usual, slow down, fish smaller lures, and fish cover slowly.... I am just wondering if anybody else has some good pointers. Thanks
  14. They give your lipped cranks a better wobble. That is primarily the only application I have used them on. It gives me the option to change sizes and colors quickly. I just haven't really tried them on soft plastics, jigs, or any other lures, so I couldn't offer an opinion there.
  15. Anybody ever tried one of these as a jig trailer? I was thinking of swimming a jig at night with it... http://www.lftlures.com/categories/soft-plastics-lft-hyper-freak-baby-hyper-freak-3-75
  16. Lipless - I run steady, fairly fast retrieve or jerk and reel, jerk and reel. Jerkbaits - Quick twitch, twitch, twitch, pause, twitch, twitch, twitch... and well, its the same retrieve as Catt's. Jigs - Shake, and work it thru cover and pump it like a texas rig.
  17. My favorites: 1 - Yum Chunk 2 - NetBait Paca Chunk 3 - Strike King 3X ElazTech Denny Brauer Chunk 4 - Yamamoto Fat Baby Craw 5 - Yum Craw Papi 2.75 6 - Strike King Rage Tail Craw Ok, I know that's a lot, but I use them all. I listed them in order of my preference. A lot of times, all you have to do is change the trailer to get the bites and above is just about the progression I use every time, when I am jig fishing. I prefer big profiles with jigs. You don't always catch the numbers, but you do catch quality bass with them.
  18. http://www.mygogetit.com/ You can't beat the one linked above. I fished all day yesterday in standing timber with crankbaits. Lost 2, but saved snags over 15 times. I use a lot if luckycraft lures, so this has already paid for itself over and over and over. Best one on the marker if you ask me.
  19. Well, I wish I could give a report on the Yuki Bug, but I didn't get them from UPS yesterday. The pkg was delayed, so no report as of yet. Although we did catch quite a few today on crankbaits. It was too windy and muddy to fish plastics anyways, so it kind of worked out. I will let you guys know how they work when I get to use them.
  20. Problem fixed. We caught 29 today 1 5lb and 1 4lb. The rest were small. Good day for 15 - 25 mph wind gusts and muddy water! Thanks for the help guys!
  21. Thanks for the input guys. I pulled the braid off and put a backing line on it. Going fishing tomorrow and will let you know if that fixed it.
  22. Guys - I bought this reel last year and haven't used it a ton till here lately. Its worked fine until the last few times I used it. I have 20lb braid on the spool with a 8lb leader of flouro tied onto the end. I have been fishing weightless senko's and noticed that my drag was not engaging correctly. After I cast out the senko, I would at times try and pull some slack off the reel after the bail was closed thinking that the drag would kick in and give me some tension. Well it didn't, the line just stripped right off with no resistance. I then stripped a lot of line off and put some tension back on the line and the drag worked. I don't really understand what's happening. Maybe I have too much line on the spool? I have no idea. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks
  23. I take the 27 reads and no replies as a no.....LOL
