  1. I quit your crappy forum because of all the ******** who preach about catch and release like it's a religion despite state games laws allowing harvest. Then there's the fervor to buy more stuff and gear...It's sickening having all that shoved down your throat when you just want to learn a little. I have unsubscribed at least 6 times and still get your junk mail. So maybe this will help you remember. Glenn's Translation
  2. I will give that a try this weekend. Thanks for the advice.
  3. Just caught a big one crossing my lawn last week. The shell was about 18" froint to back and 15" wide. Didn't weigh it, though. Anyway, I left it in a trashcan for a week changing the water daily and then butchered it. The legs and tail were red meat and the neck and loins were white. We made soup using Emeril's recipe. Fussy recipe, but very good. Well worth the effort. This will be standard procedure for turtles from now on. That week or 10 days in a trashcan is crucial. Don't bother trying to eat one otherwise.
  4. Nightcrawlers get stripped by the bluegills at my place. Haven't found anything else that'll work yet, either. So far I've caught just one, but it was 15" long.
  5. Never had it happen, although I've seen one bass trying to steal the plastic worm trailing from a hooked fish's mouth on at least 3 occasions. A second hook might have produced a double. I guessed it was due to our pond being overstocked and low on forage.
  6. Makes sense webertime. Tried jigging some tiny white and yellow grubs tonight and had some success. Caught mostly crappie at about 9' for a while, then picked up 2 perch just off the bottom. The sunnies and bluegills didn't bother the jigs much. That mix is fine with me. Very happy with it. It's nice to be able to control what bites a little better. Thanks for the advice everyone.
  7. Last night I caught 25 bluegills and 0 perch. Will try jigging deeper this evening and see what happens. Thanks.
  8. I was afraid of that. Will just have to keep fishing.
  9. I've got a 2.5 acre pond on the property. It's 20' at the deepest and 4-5' in the shallows. We've owned it for about 18 months and so far have caught bluegills, largemouth bass, black crappie, bullhead and just recently a yellow perch. The perch was a pleasant surprise and I'd like to catch more. I've been trying small spinners, cicadas, and other recommended lures but all I can catch are bluegills and small crappies. Any suggestions on how to catch perch but not the others? Thanks, Chad
  10. Immigrants aren't guests. They're full-fledged citizens with all the right and responsibilities of someone born here.
  11. You can always call the PFBC. They're usually pretty helpful about such things.
  12. Looks like a nice catch. And that's a good fish, too.
  13. Three silver bullets to the heart.
  14. Thanks guys. We do need to remove some of those 12" bass but it's slow going with just me and a 5 yr old. There are only 4 or 5 other people who fish here occasionally. Lots of people have asked permission, but they haven't come back. Go figure... How do I determine how many should be removed? -Stiller
