  1. I've decided to switch out my 25 lb power pro to a mono or fluorocarbon on my rod I traditionally fish plastics with. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with something in the range of 18-20 lb test, but does anybody have any fluorocarbons they particularly like? Ive been a braid guy for a while now, and don't know whats really out there. Thanks!
  2. So me and my buddies are thinking about a trip to Mazatlan, MX for spring break this year (Feb or March). Apparently, it is about an hour or so away from El Salto and there are multiple charters to take a two-man party out for a day of trophy bassin', but has anyone here on the boards been to Mazatlan? Anywhere else in Mexico for that matter? Any lodges or guides in the area you recommend?
  3. WOW! Very informative Rooster. Long casts and tight lines Sir.
  4. While I understand the mechanical differences between the two, I'm still lost at understanding what conditions/lure types/overall conditions dictate which reel is better. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
  5. I've yet to really jump on the swimbait wagon, but I have a couple FAT Money Minnows, and I imagine the same rules apply for the smaller sizes (maybe even more-so). BE PERFECTLY CENTERED with your rigging. Especially with the weighted hooks. even a bit twisted or offcenter makes it swim off line. Also be sure to skin the hook up top neatly too. I think if it humps up any too much it will alter its action too (in a bad way)
  6. On my way to BPS today with my roommate and he came up with a great highly debatable topic of discussion that lasted about the whole 45 minute drive. If you could have 5 lures for LMB to fish year-round, what would they be? I don't mean spinners, cranks, etc... Literally 5 actual lures in the box that are the most reliable and they are the only things you could fish with for the rest of your life, what would they be. Things to consider: they should be somewhat productive throughout all seasons, what colors would cover a range of varying conditions, etc... I've got my list, I'm curious to see what you all would throw
  7. I've been spending the majority of this year's season fishing the Occaquan Reservoir in Burke, VA and the timeline has been as follows: End of April: Hitting spinnerbaits and crankbaits (Spinners mostly), 3-4 pounders May to July: Less action, 2-3 pounders, same tackle as end of April NOW: NO FISH! All our spots by cover and structure and in coves are yielding next to nothing. Anything caught has been on slow moving plastics and have not been heavier that 2 lbs. I know that the water is warmer so the fish have supposedly moved deeper, but deep swimming cranks and structures off points haven't been productive at all. Does anyone have any tips and tricks to get these deep hogs to bite? Anything I should be definitly stopping for when I see it on the depth finder? Any good weather tips? Sun, Shade?
  8. So I have a 7'3" MH Carrot Stick with a Team Daiwa Spinning reel on, but I'm tryign to get another baitcaster, and I most often use spinner baits. I think I'm leaning towards a Mojo Bass, but I wanted to see what you all would suggest if you had to stay under 300 for the rod/reel.
  9. So I closed took the plungew and spent the 20 on this supposed "wonderlure" and I havent gotten ANY results on this thing. I have it in the sexy shad-ish color and I've tried fast retirving it so it wakes, I've tried giving it a couple seconds so it can sink, but more often than not, if I look at a trunk too hard, it snags it. Anyone out there have this swimbait and have any tried and true methods of coaxing the bite with it? Am i fishing it in too shallow water?

  11. My roomate and I have accumulated enough in our "rainy-day" fund to go on a 3 to 4 day bass fishing trip somewhere either in the US or Mexico. I have searched all over the WWW and called many places and it seems the biggest LMB hogs are in Mexico, i.e. Lake Guerrero and such. For safety (and cost cutting) reasons, I'd much rather saty in US. Anyone have an endorsement of somewhere in particular with great topwater in Jan-Feb time range? Basically, if you could pick one destination LMB guided fishing trip, where would it be?
