Make sure he is closing the bail by hand and that there is tension on the line when doing it. This will elimanate a lot of twist. You will always have coiling prolbems with floro....its the nature of the beast. KVD line conditioner helps a lot. I like a Plueger President spinning reel. I too, have switched to braid with a floro leader.

I can take up to 10 and keep it manageable.

In Ga, you must stop fishing for the species of fish you are fishing for the moment you keep your limit. I assume its about the same in La?
