I hit the delta again today for an awesome Striper trip. We arrived at Brannon Island and the tide was coming in with a descent current so we opted to fish bait for a couple hours till we got close to high tide.
The bait fishing was exciting. With fast action on small stripers. We caught well over 20 shakers and 3 that were barely over 18 inches that we quickly tossed back in the drink in hopes of bigger fish.. I also caught 2 Starry Founder. They are great eating so I threw them in the box. We could barely sit down for a second without our rod bouncing like crazy. It was alot of fun.
At 11:00 we decided to leave shaker central and head for some good trolling grounds. It was a toss up weather to stay in the Sac river or head to the San Juaquin. We made the right desision!
Started trolling the Sac river below RV. at 11:30. by 11:35 we had our first respectable fish weighing in at 6 pounds. 5 minutes later another maybe 5 pounds. This action continued for 2 hours. We landed 19 Stripers on the troll. We had 3 Cisco Kid Lures out and a Yozuri. all followed by a worm trailer.
The Cisco's we used were a bright green/chartruese Wrangler. an orange tiger Wrangler, and a Red head/silver Husky. The Yozuri was a crystal minnow, black and silver with an orange belly.
We had 2 triples. This is tough with 2 people. and 3 doubles. One time I netted my partner's fish as my rod was going off. He was wrestling around with his fish while I was reeling mine in and my other rod goes off. My partner tries to grab that one and the fish that was in the net thrashes around hooking the treble from his Yozuri in his pants. Now he is stuck to the net and there's a fish in the net and I had to reel in my first fish, pull it over the side, grab my other rod and reel in that fish and pull it over the side. By this time he had finally un hooked himself and his fish and released it. What a great time!!!!!
The biggest fish of the day was well over 10 pounds and 32 inches. The second was 29 inches and most were 22-24 inches. What an awesome day. Thank you Stripers for playing today, I had a blast!
Here's a picture of one of our double's.
