  1. Back in 08-09, I had a place on the New River that was just a honey hole. I could catch some NICE smallies. Well last year, it was a long cold winter. A bunch of ice formed on the river and was just putting up on the banks it got so bad. As a result, thousands of fish died and ended up at Bilsby Dam. I think it hurt the fish population pretty bad because now you cant hardly catch a fish there now. This time of year it was no problem to go and catch ten apiece that were 2 1/2 lbs+. Well i finally caught one and it felt so good to catch a smallie again! here are pics from this weekend: (at local watershed I went to after the river) Caught this one at a river (not the watershed in the above pics)
  2. (I have this in my build thread but thought id get more traffic if I asked here) I just got a foot controlled trolling motor from my dad for free. Its an odler style but Ill tell you what, it looks like a stout beast. all metal design so I dont have to worry about breaking anything lol. Its a Mariner 422R (I think) trolling motor and the only thing I know about it is what I found on iboats. does ANYONE know anything about these or owned one? Here is what i found (not my motor, but i have one exactly like it) Also, should I just screw it down with BIG stainless screws like I used on my casting deck and stuff?
  3. The father in law and I went to Belews Lake in Rural Hall, NC. Its a hot water lake as the Duke Power Plant sits on it. got on the water around 9:30 and fished to about 5:30-6:00. Went to a a few holes we always seem to do well in. We through the Get Five Diner Worm on a shakey head and bought in a nice fish within the first hour. Then I threw on a Zoom Watermelon Trick worm texeposed and caught the next two fish. All these came out of the same tree. had to get the bait down in there. Then we moved to another hole with a nice tree and out came another fish. The trees had to be near/in deep water. Then we moved to the hot hole (hot water discharge area) and I threw a Carolina Rigged Watermelon Baby Brush Hog and bought in 6 fish from that area. Father in law caught 3 more fish on a C-Rigged Green Pumpkin Trick Worm. on to the pics (not all fish pictured) [img width=500 height=375]http://i694.photobucket.com/albums/vv308/dixie_boysles/2011-02-13103641.jpg [img width=500 height=375]http://i694.photobucket.com/albums/vv308/dixie_boysles/2011-02-13111441.jpg [img width=500 height=375]http://i694.photobucket.com/albums/vv308/dixie_boysles/2011-02-13111448.jpg [img width=375 height=500]http://i694.photobucket.com/albums/vv308/dixie_boysles/2011-02-13112303.jpg [img width=500 height=375]http://i694.photobucket.com/albums/vv308/dixie_boysles/2011-02-13120643.jpg [img width=375 height=500]http://i694.photobucket.com/albums/vv308/dixie_boysles/2011-02-13144927.jpg [img width=500 height=375]http://i694.photobucket.com/albums/vv308/dixie_boysles/2011-02-13163607.jpg [img width=500 height=375]http://i694.photobucket.com/albums/vv308/dixie_boysles/2011-02-13120650.jpg
  4. I am man, too bad it just sits under a tarp right now! I rushed to get it done for winter smallie season, and the smallies arn't there like they were a few years back
  5. this sucks, I dont get to use my boat that much now because the local river fishing sucks right now A bunch of ice killed alot of fish last winter and fishing has went downhill
  6. thanks He turns three next month, bought him home on my shoulder as a puppy and love him to death
  7. So I've been fishing the pond beside the house since late 07 when I really got into bass fishing. I first caught two fish out of this pond in Dec. 07 on baby brush hogs and that's what got me hooked! A little background on the pond: The pond has been there for years. It is not taken care of anymore. Weeds and grass have taken over the edges other than the paths that i have wore down. One side of the pond is shallow and kind of narrow. The other side is deeper but I'm not sure of how deep. I catch most fish on the left side of the lake in the position that it is in. That's mostly because the other side has way too may weeds to go though. The red dot is where I was standing and the green is where I cast. This spot in the pond seems to always get me a fish. On my first cast i still had on a Watermelon Candy Truck worm on a Green pumpkin shakey head. I was watching the line on the first cast on the drop. I noticed it never dropped, but then seemed to moving away from me so i set the hook on my nice 3 lb 8 oz LM! Now granted its not the biggest LM in the world, but the biggest I have caught in that effing pond. I have fished it many times and been skunked my it many times. not today! Caught three in all, and missed another one that had picked the bait up and was traveling with it. Buddy watching a fish jump
  8. I did on my transom mount Minn Kota. All we had to do was remove the head, cut the shaft, and figured a way to route the wire in the head without having to cut it because of the extra length.
  9. Any wood in my boat was coated with two coats of fiberglass resin, so I should be good to go! like he said, you cant use treated because it will pit and oxidize aluminum real bad.
  10. thanks, wedding is in August of next year, house searching now, and yeah i love my lab..lol
  11. thanks! these pics are actually a little misleading! i had to add a 1/2" piece of carpeted wood inbetween the bottom board and the swivel after these pics were taken. the back of the seat would scrub the top of the carpeted board when resting back. so OP, if you do it my way, hit me up and i can help ya out. also here is my build thread man if you missed it: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1266949833
  12. install carpeted boards on top of the bench like I did and install the seats to those:
  13. Didnt go to the River today, going tomorrow! I did however take m dog for his first boar ride ever! He did great! Didnt catch anything on the local watershed, hoping where I go tomorrow produces! Meet Buddy, my three year old Chocolate Lab. he actually did alot of this today: He will make a great fishing partner!
  14. I got mine at lowes for 5.35 a foot: This is actual marine carpet as it has a marine backing and all
  15. Well, Sara Marie and I took the boat out after I got off work today for her first run since all the new mods!!!! The boat did AWESOME!!!!!!! Didnt have a leak, very stable, VERY comfortable and didnt catch a d**n fish...lol. because Sara "L"oves me so much You will shat bricks when you see it, my wonderful fiance for whom I love so much:
  16. I get this all the time. Its always kinda hard to explain to someone the catch and release concept. I fish for the sport, pure adrenaline of feeling that bass on my line. I do not care to eat fish, especailly a bass haha.
  17. if its on wood, a grinder and sandpaper disk! just dont eat into the wood
  18. Went to Claytor Lake in Pulaski, Va sunday with the future father in law to do some bass fishing! It was a pretty good day. The fish were biting good! I caught this baby at the end of a log under a dock! She's about a 2 1/2 pounder. Not the biggest largemouth i
  19. worked on the boat some more today, nothing major. just installed the front anchor point. After that I was itching to do something else when it hit me. I needed to make some backing plates for the trolling motor when I mount it on the back so im not scratching the mess out of some paint. I used some leftover aluminum I had to make them. Made a trip to lowes to get some stainless bolts; some 1/4 20 X 2 1/2 hex bolts and washers with some lock nuts. I was working in the dark...lol inside the boat backing plate: Front anchor point tie off: Also yesterday, I installed the other set of rod holders on the left side! Cant wait till saturday for the wiring and possible test run
  20. Just because I like looking at before and afters of this thing! Earlier this year: Yesterday!!!: Will look even better when the trailer is painted flat black or something light that, even gloss black!
