  1. I feel you bud I'm trying to setup my Pro Qualifer and its kicking my butt.
  2. Just went down and got the package!! Got my reel, Hat hook Booyah spinner and hook file! Now to get everything put together!
  3. I just checked the tracking on it and at 10:30 at night I find out it arrived at the post office at 3:30 this afternoon. GAH its less than 5 miles away!
  4. I was just looking for a cheap boat, and I noticed the coleman fish ranger and fish master. Anyone ever used them?
  5. Well good I bought that ugli stick, because my Rapala collection keeps growing So try them out huh? Guess I'll have to when I goto my local( by that I mean 2 hours away) Bass Pro friday. Your ugly stick would probably be a good crankbait rod! ;D As for whether a rod can make you catch more bass, they can help. I don't care how sensitive a rod is, if you're fishing, where they are not, you won't catch fish. So in that respect, the answer to your second question is no. I was not too impressed with the mojo line. This isn't to put them down, as they weren't bad, but I think the other rods in its class feel better in my hand. Lastly, you will never know how much nicer other rods might feel in your hands until you try them. Everyone is a nay sayer until they see the light, present company, yours truly, included.
  6. well for instance: will a crankin rod actually give me better performance out of a crankbait than my Ugli Stick? Will a Mojo Bass help me catch more bass?
  7. Are lure or species specific rods actually effective or are they a rip off?
  8. And this would be the part where us northerners glare at you.
  9. I feel you, here in iowa theres a couple of places that have over 10 inches of ice. It'll be 2 more months before winter starts to give up and 2 more before its fit to fish. I as well am going insane.
  10. I put my catalog order in a while ago, and I ordered somestuff on the 27th of dec, and still haven't got it yet.

I kinda got confused, I once saw a picture of somthing on a line behind a spoon, it looked like a little plastic grub, and the caption identified it as a trailer. I thought it was somthing you just rigged up.

The spinner bait one is the one I'm interested in, is there a way to rig one or do you buy them?

OK I can find several posts talking about how great trailers are, or what ones to use, but none on how to tie one onto a lure. I've heard they can be effective, so can anyone point me to a good resource for this?
  16. I fished a little as a kid, but didn't have the patience for it. My family is full of what I call "Jim Bob fishermen" basically people who just put a worm on, chunk it in the water, and open a beer while waiting for the carp to bite. So I gave up on it. One day I was playing an old super nintendo fishing game and decided that I should stop doing that and fish for real(reel heheh) That weekend my wife and I were going to a ren fair and I wasn't really enjoying it. So I took the money we were going to spend there and bought my first combo. By this point I had been ready Fishing for Dummies. I ran out to my inlaw's farm pond and promptly caught...nothing. It took the next trip to catch anything(2 largemouth) and the next (a much bigger one). So basically I guess I taught myself with a book and some articles from this site.
  17. It'll never thaw. Atleast thats how it feels. I'm seriously considering ice fishing. I live over by fort dodge, and do most of my fishing around tama.
  18. A while back I bought a BPS Stampede spinning combo. I fished a while with it, and did well. One day I looked at the rods stats( Forgive me, I'm new) and realized that my 7' rod was only rated at medium and maxed out at 12 lb test. So basically I want to know what is a good, and economic rod to replace this one, hopefully is the 6' range.
  19. I just bought on, size 5 , in fire tiger. Anyone know if they're anygood?
  20. It's gotten some good reviews from forum members here, it has a 4.8 star rating (with 88 reviews) on the BPS web site (FWIW), and those that actually own them usually say they are a good value. Right now, the right-hand models are sold out on the BPS web site. I've got 4 PQs and will be getting probably 2 more. One thing for sure, the dual-braking feature sure makes learning a BC reel much easier and you will have fewer backlashes. With most baits, just turn on 2 of the centrifugal brakes, set the magnetic to 5-7 to start, and you will have a pretty conservative initial set-up. Don't forget to adjust the cast control/spool tension knob per the instructions. No, not at all - see the instructions. It shows you how to remove the palm-side plate and to remove the spool and also gives lubrication instructions. Reel oil is best. Some gun oils are probably light enough - like RemOil or equivalent. Not sure I would use BreakFree... Sure - I have had 8, 10, and 12 lb line on my PQs. Thanks, that s all great. Now I don't suppose you have any experience with the BPS Stampede?
  21. Thats what I figured. I was going to get the tourney combo, but I had some extra cash so I went for this reel, and got a 6' Ugli Stick for it. I don't suppose you know if it would work alright with 10 lb line instead of 12?
  22. Did you check the spool shafts - I got a reel in that had grease on the shafts - I cleaned that off and put a drop of oil on each shaft, as well as a drop of oil on each of the three spool bearings and it made a difference... Is this a complicated process? I hope not and what kind of oil did you use? I have gun oil(CLP I believe) and some light GP oil.
  23. I just ordered one of these online the other day. I got the 7.1 with the left handed retrieve. This is my first baitcaster, os is this actually as good of a reel as the reviews say?
  24. Hi all, Like the title says I'm from Iowa. I really just started fishing this year( My family fished a bit when I was a kid, but never really got into it.) Mostly because I was playing an old fishing video game and thought "why am I playing a fishing game when I could be fishing for real?" so I bought my first rod and reel at Bass Pro. Needless to say and to use a horribly battered cliche, I'm hooked.
