  1. OK, so I put in the update for my HDS 5 and its basically taken all of the menu items and screwed them up. I can't read anything, everything looks weird. I'm very unhappy. I have a tourney tomorrow. Any help?
  2. I don't really have many perch around here. I looked at the spro and wish they had a good bluegill color. I would like a hardbait but they are so expensive.
  3. OK, so I'm going to get started on swimbaits and will be throwing them in local lakes(Rend, Carlyle, KY lake). I'm in southern Illinois and nobody around here fishes swimbaits, so I can't ask anyone here. This is what I'm working with and what I will be getting and I'm wondering if I'm leaving something out. I know, I know, the rod and reel aren't made for swimbaits, but I'm hoping they will be fine since I'm using smaller baits. If I'm totally off let me know. Around here, the main baitfish are shad and bluegill. I have: Daiwa Tierra reel Powell flippin 765 rod 17lb mono sebile magic swimmer Getting: mattlures soft bass(5.5") huddleston 6" rof 5 in blue shad mattlures 6" tournament swimbait in blue back herring Anything else I really need. I don't care too much for hard swimbaits, but if I really need one, I don't know. Also, should I get a bluegill(mattlures ultimate bluegill)? Last question: Am I wasting my time? Should I not even bother with swimbaits around here?
  4. Thanks guys. I actually set the hook pretty hard with my thumb on the spool. I would like to learn some new knots but don't know how. I think my problem is not retying enough. Should you really have to retie every 4-5 fish with 12lb floro?
  5. By the way, I've now switched everything to mono and hate it. But I'm not getting as many breaks.
  6. I'm not sure what is causing this, but its costing me money. I've lost 3 tournaments now that could have possibly been won with what probably still has a hook in its mouth. I'm breaking off a whole lot on my hookset. 1st tourney: fish were hitting sinko great. only problem was I would break off 2 of every 3 or so. This day I was using 10lb braid on a spinning reel. braid was tied strait to hook on one rod and a floro leader on the other. between the two I broke off 8. 8 breakoffs in a one day tourney!!!! Didn't take much to win either. 2nd tourney: I was using Pline Halo 15lb floro. would set the hook and it would just break really easy. I think I might have gotten a really bad birdnest and pulled it out to hard. This tourney might have been a fluke. Broke 6. 3rd tournament: Thought I had it figured out. Had 30lb braid to 15lb floro 4' leader. I was using tungston weights(can this hurt my line???) Only broke off two.. Not horrible but still 2 too many. I'm using what I think is a polomer knot. though eye, back thru, tie box knot, take loop and go around bait, then pull tight while keeping wet. So is it the knot, braid, tungston weight(couldn't have been in first tourney), or what? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks
  7. Real foot lake, TN has a spot called Glory Hole.
  8. Bill Dance wouldn't make top 10,000 on my list.
  9. People don't realize how good he really is. Top 3 easy!
  10. I'm definitely looking for a rod closer to 7' as my rod locker holds my 7'1" loomises perfect but has a hard time with my max765. That powell swim jig is 7'2". I really with I lived somewhere where I could put my hands on these and stop this guessing game.
  11. Well I was leaning towards the savvy. I'm getting that and I think the Powell swim jig. Anyone have any thoughts on the swim jig?
  12. I haven't fished either one of these rods but recently have had the same issue. I talked to the guy at Dobyns and he says the blanks are totally different with different blanks and guides. The Savvy blank is a cheaper blank with cheaper guides. As far as what they told me on performance however, it seems sensitivity is the only real difference. Again, I haven't fished them though.
  13. If you can get your hands on a sol, thats the one. Other than that, no question its the Curado.
  14. haha. I know. But is it $20 prettier?? I really like Keith and have a few Powells now that I'm very happy with. The guy at Dobyns said "all of the savvys are between 2.9-3.1oz. Hard to believe given the range of lengths. Can you tell me which one might be lighter?
