  1. Sorry if this is kind of off topic. I'm still a noobie, both to the area and fishing somewhat. I caught my first LMB off of plastic worms and spinners this year, been reading a lot of the good advice from you guys. No boat for me, is there good fishing from the shore at bolling afb? I got my CAC there but didn't know you could fish there. Where do I go once I get past the guard?
  2. depending on wind direction/speed, it can push the water right out of the rivers lowering the tide. hopefully it's just the wind.
  3. judging from the spots, the last 2 pics are of the same fish.
  4. what do i throw at them? any bait/lures? do they feed like catfish? saw some of those in the shallows as well.
  5. didn't know whether i should start a new thread, but figured this wasn't threadworthy... i only ask because i saw some big reddish looking fish at 4mr this weekend. (only managed 2 small bass and a couple perch). Didn't know what to throw at it as one came up close to the shore, they didn't like my plastics or spinnerbaits. wasn't sure if they were coming up for air or demolishing some bug that landed in the water. reminded me of that show rivermonsters.... I had a rod sittin there with a nightcrawler on it, saw it bend for a full second... then nothing :-/. had no idea what caused my 10 lb test line to snap so effortlessly... i'll know to let some drag out next time around and bring my stronger rod with 30 lb test (will that be necessary??). Are they carp? Does anyone know? I guess brown can look reddish in the water... If you guys know there are plenty of carp @ 4MR, what's the best way to catch them?
  6. what color are the carp in the water?
  7. Edited: OK so you apparently need a membership to enter that lake, so nevermind. Any other fishing spots out there? I'll be traveling out of NE philadelphia. I'll be visiting PA this weekend and the only lake I can find on the map, (besides rivers flowing in/out of philly) is Van Sciver lake in bucks county. I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience on this lake or fished it recently? Or maybe if there are any better freshwater spots in the philadelphia area?
  8. 4MR = Four Mile Run. A virginia creek off the Potomac River. There is a sewage treatment plant that heats the water in this creek causing it to be a d**n good fishery. It is also easily accessible from shore. Thanks Rockville, can't wait to check it out. Hopefully it won't rain Friday morning. I'm guessing you go off of commonwealth ave and park by the baseball fields?
  9. Came across this forum after searching for * fishing in google, so I decided to register as I'm reading a lot of good info. See 4MR a lot - is that a nickname for a lake? I moved down here from PA 3 years ago and usually fish at Burke or Fountainhead, but wouldn't mind finding some new spots. Preferably some places I can fish from the shore since I dont have a boat
