  1. ice fish. buy a cheap hand auger and cheap little jigging pole and go catch some fish. I was out this morning for a couple hours before work and caught 10 or so bluegills. I even know of a pond I catch bass consistently thru the ice.
  2. Of course! I catch bass ice fishing all the time. When it's right after ice out I tend to catch more by downsizing some and fishing slower than normal.
  3. Thanks guys! I just went to Gander and felt the Veritas and immediately it just felt right. I felt some other rods like the skeet Reese rods, carrot stix, st croix's, etc. and honestly it came down to the Veritas and Vendetta. I bought a Veritas MH 7'. I really was 50/50 with the 6'6 or 7' but decided to get the 7' as the length didn't seem that much different. Everything is iced up here so i can't even go out with it yet but I did get a 1 year warranty in which is the 7' just isn't for me I can return it. Now it's time for a reel.
  4. Hi all, this winter I'd like to get a new set up for jigging. I have read getting a medium heavy fast action tip is most common for jigs. I have never used a rod longer than 6'6 but am willing to try up to 7'. I am pretty short so I feel a longer rod would be a little more troublesome. Last year I caught 75% of my bass on jigs and they are what I throw more than anything else. I used a combo from dick's abu garcia medium lightning rod and silver max reel. I'm looking to get a rod and reel for around 150 up to 200$. What ratio reel would be ideal for jigging, I don't ever cast far while jigging. Um, what rod do you all recommend for the price range? Any help would be appreciated!!! Oh yea I'm throwing 3/8-1/2 oz jigs 99% of the time.
  5. Braid is the worst to learn with??? Hmm, I never heard that before. I started using a baitcaster last year and I got the hang of it pretty quick, a few backlashes early on but now I am very accurate and rarely get even a small backlash. I have braid on my baitcaster and I have less backlashes with it and they are easier to get out for me. I don't see how braid can be worse to start with??
  6. Southern NY Way better than my previous years catching way more numbers and a lot bigger bass. I have 5 bass over 5-12 this year with my PB being caught yesterday, a 6 lb 9 oz. The reason: Simple, I have become a much better fisherman and I get to fish a variety of lakes.
  7. I usually say "There's one" or "Booyah baby" LOL
  8. I love jigs. They have caught me more big fish than any other lure. I personally like 3/8 oz brown/green pumpkin or black/blue jigs with tiny or baby paca craws or chigger craws as trailers. All of my 5 lb+ bass this year have been caught on jigs.
  9. I would say catching 10+ fish and at least one 3 lbs or bigger. Of course just going is great, but a "successful" outing would be the above.
  10. I think some of the guesses are pretty generous IMO. It's so hard to tell from pics, but that bass doesn't look too thick to me. I can't see it being over 6 1/2, my guess would be 5 and change.
  11. Mostly Gander Mountain plastics. They tend to be more durable and catch fish just as well as any other plastic. I also like Zoom brush hogs, super hogs, flukes.
  12. Lunkerville, City Limits, Bass Pros, Bill Dance, Jimmy Houston.. all good shows to me
  13. Jigs are my favorite, but topwater is a close second. I love setting the hook with jigs and seeing a big bass come up and suck down a topwater frog is just awesome!
  14. I'd say pretty good.. beat my last year's best already at 5 lbs 3 oz. The day I caught her I had my best 5 fish total with 17 lbs 13 oz. Been doing GREAT with the jig so far and hoping for it stay this good for the rest of the year.
  15. Yep, every time I see water all I think about is that would be a great place to fish. When I start talking about it my friends laugh, they just don't understand!
  16. Most of the time I'll throw a jig, sometimes when it's a bit thicker I'll throw t rigged beavers, brush hogs, etc. which I feel gets thru that stuff better. I never really threw moving baits into cover, I need to start doing that
  17. I almost always use a 3/8 oz jig with gander mtn 3 in beavers as my trailer.
  18. every pond i fish there's different lures that work best. The pond near my house before weeds, beetle spins kill em and in summer it's frogs around the pads. Most other ponds i do well with shallow cranks and jigs.
  19. I can only watch Lunkerville online, but it is the best show. I wish I got WFN.
  20. Strike King Pro Team Journal City Limits Bass Pros Bill Dance
  21. There's a pond at a local college I fish and I've caught gloves, t shirts, line with a sunny hooked on it(I released the sunny) and even an orange work cone.
  22. I use power pro and love it.. no problems with it yet
  23. 1. Use the dropshot more often with success. 2. Fish new lakes 3. Get a new PB, hopefully a 6 lber
