  1. Rich, This guy does nicer work, in my opinion. http://www.freewebs.com/anglingartisan/index.htm
  2. I have seen reports of a 29.92 lb 5 smallmouth tournament limit from Lake Simcoe in Canada. That is the largest limit that I have seen documentation of. Is there an documentation on the Erie limit? Was it in a tournament?
  3. To give you a frame of reference, here are (in order) a 4-0, 4-4, 4-8 and 5-0. I'm sure you will be able to tell which one yours is closest in size to. 4-0 4-4 4-8 5-0 Nice catch, congrats. And best of luck with your replica mount.
  4. If the water is clear, stick to spinning tackle and 6 or 8 pound line. My favorite baits for smallmouth are tubes, spider jigs, Luckycraft Sammy, spinnerbaits and suspending jerkbaits. Grubs, crankbaits and baby brush hogs are also excellent smallmouth baits. Once you catch a few river smallies, I'm pretty sure you will want to catch more. Best of luck.
  5. That smallie looks to be around 4 pounds to me, given your size as a background. Congrats.
  6. Here is the contact information. http://www.freewebs.com/anglingartisan/index.htm
  7. Any photos of the 6 lber?
  8. I've seen 20" smallmouth range from 3 3/4 pounds all the way up to 6 pounds. The 6 pounder was built like a dump truck though.
  9. I just returned from a long weekend trip to Maine to fish with Davebass for 2 1/2 days. We tried a lake that neither of us had ever fished. It was very remote, as the last eight miles to get to the launch were via a dirt road. On Sunday, I think we saw more eagles than people. The scenery was great, as was the food and the company. The Smallmouth fishing was very good, with 44 quality smallmouth coming into the boat over the 2 1/2 days in addition to a bunch of dinks, fallfish, perch, etc. The average smallie was around 3 pounds, with only a handful of the 44 we caught weighing under 2 pounds. Water temps were 67-70, and the conditions were constantly changing. We caught all our fish in 4' to 12' of water on a variety of baits, with spinnerbaits, topwater, soft jerkbaits and spider grubs producing best. I never take the time to take any photos other than fish, so I made it a point to take some scenery photos this time. Here are a few of the mountains that overlook the lake: This is what it looked like while we threw topwater baits in the evening: And here is one of the many eagles we saw. He was a juvenille, that checked us out for about 15 minutes while we fished the shoreline below: It didn't take long to start catching smallmouth, as I caught this one on the second cast of the trip on a sammy 100: Dave got this nice one on a super spook jr.: And a Sammy 115 produced this one in the late afternoon in about 10' of water: Dave caught this one on a 1/2 oz. double willow spinnerbait off a rockpile: Here's the biggest smallmouth of the trip, at 4 pounds 4 ounces, caught on a super fluke off some scattered rock in about 5' of water: And here's Dave with the last bass of the trip. A nice chunk that ate a popper in about 6' of water. All in all a great trip, with real good results for daytime smallmouth fishing in August. MUCH better than anything I could have done here in CT mid summer. Thanks Dave, we will have to do it again sometime.
  10. Got out with a buddy Monday evening for a few hours. Best fish of the night was a 6-6 LMB caught on a 9" MS Slammer 2X swimbait. Also got one about 3 1/4 on a spinnerbait after dark. Water temps high 70's, bass were caught in 4-6' of water. Total bass for the trip was about 10. Here are a few photos.
  11. I'm thinking its a green carp, but not sure.
  12. Thanks everyone, I caught this goofy looking green thing in Connecticut last night. Can anyone help me identify it? ;D
  13. Congrats, it sounds like you had a good trip. They all pull hard and are a blast to catch.
  14. Thanks Kent. There won't be a new PB though. A 4 or 5 pound smallmouth in Maine is a trophy. 6 pound smallmouth are EXTREMELY rare in maine. Maine is loaded with Smallmouth in the 2 1/2 to 4 pound range. If someone gets a 4 1/2 or 5 pounder on this trip, that would be fantastic. ;D
  15. Thanks everyone. I have fished many lakes, rivers and ponds in the Sebago, Bangor and Belgrades areas. I am told that Long Lake (above Sebago) is the best spot for big Smallmouth.
  16. I'll be headed up to Maine in about a week for 3 days of smallmouth fishing. Here are some Maine smallies from the past couple of years: I wish I lived in Maine.
  17. Brown Bass, Real Bass Largemouth are Green Carp ;D
  18. Thanks for all the feedback, I ordered my replica mount from the guy that did #1 and will post photos once I receive it.
  19. Congrats on a nice catch.
  20. I will be making a trip up to Maine in mid August to fish for Smallmouth with Davebass1. Our destination is pretty far up in Maine, and we anticipate water temps of 70 to the low 70's. The forage base is crayfish, juvenille perch and fallfish (chubs). Water clarity should be clear. I want to bring everything that I need to catch smallmouth, but want to avoid bringing way more tackle than I need. So far my list of baits to bring is as follows: Spider grubs in several colors; Tubes in several colors; Super Flukes and Super Fluke Jr.'s in pearl white; A handful of poppers and a handful of Sammy baits; Spinnerbaits; crayfish and baitfish colored medium/deep crankbaits; Anything missing from the list? Thanks in advance. Grubs? 4" Senkos?
  21. I fish mostly 3' to 8' after dark. Slider worms, brush hogs, black 3/8 ounce spinnerbaits with a single colorado blade and black jitterbugs all work. If you are not finding them in 3' to 8', try 8' to 12'. Good luck.
  22. The first one was done by Rich Benedict in upstate NY. The second one was done by Gary Bruch in PA.
  23. I would agree with Roadwarrior and Crestliner, think deep especially in clear water. 20-35 feet should be about right.
  24. No Kent, that is a 5 lber I caught in VT in 2006. My PB is this one that I caught this April in Massachusetts. She weighed 6-4.
