1975 Evinrude 40555C wont run
I finished cleaning the carb and putting the motor back together again. i still wasn't getting any fluid to the spark plugs. I had to put some tape over the intake which finally got the motor to start. after it started, i was able to remove the tape and restart and run the motor. i think i fouled out the plugs though as i can not get her started again. she was smoking pretty bad at first which might have been a combination of the carb cleaner and rust on the cylinders (if there was any). i plan on Jerry Riggin the steering wheel and trying her in the lake if i can get it running again later today. i then need to reconstruct the inside of the boat. if you have any good ideas on how to do this, please chime in. i have another post with pictures about that topic. thank you in advance

1975 Evinrude 40555C wont run
Key way is fixed and i have a good spark again. I have ordered a bunch of Carb gaskets and such from CrowleyMarine.com. They should be here on the 5-25-10 via UPS. I disconnected the fuel line from the carb, and it squirts a lot of fluid when the motor is turned over so i feel that the fuel pump is in good working order. I just need to get the fuel through the carb i think. just a deep cleaning? i have never done that before. any suggestions?

1975 Evinrude 40555C wont run
I found a spark now, but i found a broken keyway!! Could this have let the flywheel spin a little so that the timing was off?

16' v-hull boat mod
Here are some pictures of the inside of the bare boat, I am looking ideas on how to finish the inside without adding a lot of weight to this boat. I also have some pics of the wires that were chewed on. They go between the flywheel and the spark plugs. Can i just replace these myself or should i try to find a new wire harness? I would like to get the motor working before i spend any money on the boat itself.

16' v-hull boat mod
i put the synthetic plywood in my 1440 Lowe Jon boat (Duck Boat). it worked perfectly. it is just a thought for this project. Upon further inspection of the motor, i have found some wires that have the insulation eaten through. i do not have a spark either on either plug. i checked this with a timing light on both cylinders and had the same results. i am trying to find replacement parts for the motor first. Does anyone know where i can find parts for a 1975 Evinrude 40555C outboard? after i get it running, i will get to finishing the boat.

16' v-hull boat mod
I picked up an old 60's 16' mirror craft v-hull with a 40 evenrude for free. It had the front windshield and bow removed. the previous owner had put down a really nice decking down the whole boat. the only problem is that he used 2x8 supports and 3/4 plywood. the boat had about 300 lbs of wood in it. after removing everything, i would like to put a floor directly on the ribs for the better portion of the boat. i would like to build up the front of the boat to provide a standing area there as well. the boat has some rather large radius's running down the length on the sides. i am thinking of putting storage boxes along each side to cover this feature. does anyone have any ideas on recommendations on my idea? I want to keep as much weight out of this boat as possible. i might look into the synthetic plywood...??? thank you ion advance. i will post pictures in a couple days.
