Need Help Crappie Fishing
So I decided to go crappie fishing for the first time in a few years at Coon Lake MN were I use to always go to as a kid. The lake still looks the same over at the DNR access. I was fishing at the rocks and didn't even get nibbles so I went over to the back side of the DNR access to were the lake goes into Thielen Park around the houses and I was fishing around Thielen Park and had bites every now and then. The only problem was that the fish were too small to hook I just end up pulling the hook out of there mouth since they nibble at my small crappie jig's tails. I did however catch something of decent size but lost it. What i want to know is if there are still good size crappie there and were to find them. Also I enjoyed Thielen park alot and wonder if there are any largemouth bass in the back waters of Coon Lake in Thielen Park also at the rocks and docks at the DNR access.

the broom stick bass catcher UPDATE!!!
heres my broom stick topwater... started off as a broom stick size dowel and hand sanded down to shape all without a lathe just a few more things to do... overall length is 5 1/2" should I put 2 trebles or 3? needs eyelets and split rings and for colour i plan on a yellow base coat with a mesh pattern stencil coated with black any suggestions? Future plans- same broom stick topwater but 3-4 jointed limbs and maybe a bill for a wake bait version.

preserved live baits
I've seen those bags of preserved live bait like shinners all in a mixure that keeps the nice and tough it takes a bit to squish them and I think it be kool if I can make some like it because most the time when i use minnows once on the hook they are dead the way I use em. I can out fish alot of people with dead minnows I've heard of vinigar used to preserve things and that is what i think the solution in those bags are or some other type of solution IDK but what do you guys think it is and how can I preserve live bait so its nice and firm hard to smush but still in its life like feel like fleshy rubbery and not dry or too mushy plus can i add food coloring? I say preserved live bait because I mean leeches and minnows not bait as in bread, meat, and corn

were the smallies at?
so this forum of some guy fishing at the Rum River dam in anoka MN and it seems hes had some luck with smallies but since they are not open I decided to go check it out myself. I was trying to catch some bottom feeders while looking at spots that would hold smallmouths. Didnt seem like much but one thing that sucked was I didnt get any bottom feeders! I was using these i think power bait liver trying to catch anything that will take it. Above the dam is calm but dosnt seem like much same as parts of the bottom but some parts did look like it would hold the smallies and what bothered me was that the water below the dam is not flooded like above the dam so above the dam is hard to fish around trees however I did catch a northern with the liver. So many snags there i lost 5 hooks and sinkers so that wasnt fun. Below the E Main St. brige it looked to have potential but the current was pretty fast so I dont think any smallies will be in there. What should I look for? North of the E Main St. brige theres like this nice big pool of calm slack water were i tried for the bottom feeders but the activity in the water felt dead so I also think it might not hold smallies as well but whoe knowes. Can't wait til oppener so I can test it out for smallies. What do you guys recomend me to do about the smallies? the bottom feeders?

smallmouth spawn in MN
While whitebass fishing at the MN side of osceola i kept getting these smallies to bite. It got pretty anoying since its no use since they are not open yet and i wanted some whitebass to eat! anyways after a few smallies i seem to enjoy the fight they put up. This was about a week or 2 ago and now i wonder aren't they in the post spawn mode now in MN? I cant wait to fish for them again when they open but then again I don't know if they are still spawning right now or in the post spawn mode and if they are in the post spawn mode when will it end and they will go back to normal and start biting again? Hopefully its before the openner so they have time to get back to normal.
